Asian leaders met with national SBC leaders in the SBC building in Nashville, exploring ways to strengthen cooperation and partnership. Leaders of the ERLC, the SBC Executive Committee, the Southern Baptist Foundation, the Southern Baptist Library and Archives and ClearView Baptist Church of Franklin, TN, engaged attendees in dialogue.

Judson Education Center celebrates fifteen years of training Burmese immigrants and refugees across the USA, Malaysia, and Myanmar for church-related ministries. The ministry, founded and led by Dr. Thuam C. Khai, has graduated 70 students and planted ten churches. Praise God for the ministry and partnership in the gospel.

The Japanese Church Planting Network is an international network with 18 churches, including one in Canada, plus one planned for San Diego.

JCPN began when Japanese International Baptist churches from Tigard/Portland, Oregon; Tacoma, Washington; and Tempe banded together to pool their resources to better reach Japanese people with the gospel. The network coordinates with Hasune Baptist Church in Tokyo to send and receive missionaries from Japan.

Our staff had the great honor of hosting members of the SBC Asian American Collective at last week's Asian Leadership Summit. It was a valuable time of learning about the work of these SBC leaders and hearing what issues are most pressing to the fellowships they represent.

With the 51 Southern Baptist Hmong churches of the Hmong Baptist National Association scattered among 16 states, many travel long distances to attend the camps, including Standing Stones Youth Camp in Tennessee in July, and Living Water Conference in California in August. The 2023 camps together drew 600 attendees from 30 churches, and generated 28 decisions for Christ and dozens of inquiries regarding the plan of salvation. A dozen youth were baptized at Living Water Conference, and 15 were baptized at Standing Stones, while others will be baptized in the coming months at individual churches.

Gabriel and Thomas, along with 11 other students from a World Religions class at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary’s Leavell College, embarked on this Asian mission trip in early July to experience the missionary task firsthand. Most days, the group was out on the streets doing broad seed sowing evangelism.

Sunday, Aug. 27, is Global Hunger Sunday in the Southern Baptist Convention. Southern Baptists have used a multifaceted approach to cooperatively address global hunger since the 1978 inception of the World Hunger Fund, now known as the Global Hunger Relief Fund.

After a 10-year decline, global hunger surged with the COVID-19 pandemic. An additional 150 million people joined the grips of global hunger from 2019 to 2022, Action Against Hunger reported, with 781 million people suffering from hunger globally.

IMB staff welcomed 12 representatives of the Korea Foreign Mission Board to their home office in Richmond Aug. 22. The visit was an opportunity for Korean leaders to tour the facility and hear more about current operations and advancements at the International Mission Board. Discussion was built around sharing ideas and learning from each other as the partnership between the two mission boards grows.
