On Sunday, Pastor Joe began a new sermon series on the Parables of Jesus found in the book of Luke. Throughout this series, he will walk us through all 25 parables recorded in Luke, beginning with the first one found in Luke 6:37-49.

Through this parable, Jesus teaches us three important truths.

First, we need to come to Him. Only Jesus can remove the log from our own eye so that we can see clearly through His perfect law, love, and grace. Without Him, we can be blind to our own faults while being quick to judge others. As Jesus asks, "Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?" (Luke 6:41).

Second, after we come to Him, we need to hear what He says and follow Him. Through His Word, we can stand against evil and put on the Armor of God. As we listen to Him, He transforms our hearts. Jesus reminds us, "For no good tree bears bad fruit, nor again does a bad tree bear good fruit" (Luke 6:43).

Third, we need to dig deep and build our foundation on Him. Jesus says, "Why do you call me 'Lord, Lord,' and not do what I tell you? Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them... is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock" (Luke 6:46-48). When the storms of life come, a foundation built on Christ will not be shaken. In fact, storms often reveal what our foundation truly is. Will we turn to God and allow Him to strengthen us, or are we trusting in something else? Any foundation apart from Christ will eventually collapse.

This week, Pastor Joe challenged us to read Psalm 51 each day. May we all come to Jesus, hear His Word, and dig deep as we build our lives on the firm foundation of Christ.

You can listen to Pastor Joe's entire sermon "Come, Hear and Dig" on the "Sermons of Franklin County" podcast, available on your favorite podcast app starting Tuesday, June 9.

On Sunday, Pastor Joe concluded his Acts sermon series with Acts 28, the final chapter of the book. Throughout the chapter, we see Paul navigate the ups and downs of life by trusting God every step of the way. He survives a storm at sea, a viper bite, and even helps bring healing to many on the island of Malta. When he finally arrives in Rome, he thanks God and takes courage. The chapter ends with Paul in prison for two years, yet still boldly proclaiming the Kingdom of God and teaching about Jesus Christ without hindrance.

Through Paul's example, we are reminded that the Gospel is rooted in God's work throughout history and eternity. We also see that while some people have "ears to hear," others may reject the message. This challenges us to continually sharpen our hearts through God's Word, worship, prayer, and fellowship. When our hearts become dulled by the things of this world, they can become hardened and less receptive to God's work in our lives.

Paul also teaches us what it means to finish the race strong. Rome could place Paul in chains, but it could not chain the Gospel. No matter what challenge he faced, Paul walked boldly and confidently because of the hope he had in Jesus.

Pastor Joe challenged us to reflect on these questions: Do we have hope and confidence in Jesus? Are we sharpening our hearts, encouraging others, serving faithfully, and continuing to learn and grow so that we, too, can finish the race strong?

You can listen to Pastor Joe's entire sermon "Finish the Race" on the "Sermons of Franklin County" podcast, available on your favorite podcast app starting Tuesday, June 2.
