“Now as he drew near He saw the city and wept over it, saying, ‘If you had known, even you, especially in this your day, the things that make for your peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. For days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment around you surround you close you in on every side.... because you did not know the time of your visitation’. “ Luke 19: 41-44
Palm Sunday marks the beginning of the Holy Week; the week Christ was crucified and resurrected to give salvation to his children as it was promised years before. Christ made his final entrance into the heavenly Jerusalem with all his believers and this entrance declared the establishment of the Kingdom of God. As Jesus entered Jerusalem on a donkey (a sign of humility and peace) the multitude spread their clothes on the road others cut down branches from the trees and spread them in the road. The people who spread their clothes before Jesus did so as paying reverence to a King. Although they did not understand the kind of King He was. Christ was not there to establish a Kingdom of this world but rather there to bring forth the Kingdom of Heaven. “And some of the Pharisees called to Him from the crowd, ‘Teacher, rebuke Your disciples.’”
“But He answered and said to them, ‘I tell you that if these should keep silent, the stones would immediately cry out.’” Luke 19:39-40
Let us not be silent, we shall cry out to him, pray to him, glorify him, for he had endured all for us.
Let us be aware of what Christ did for us. Mark this day the beginning of the Holy Week. The Holy Week filled with sorrow for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and what he endured throughout the week to give us salvation. Week filled with prayer, fasting and prostration before God for he has died for all of us, his children and our salvation.
