Joshua 18:7a, But the Levites have no part among you; for the priesthood of the LORD is their inheritance; Recently a friend in our Church brought up this verse and I questioned the truth of it. I had read that the inheritance of the Levites was the Lord. I was corrected when I read it for myself. How could the Priesthood be an inheritance? The Lord I can understand. Cities in each tribe? Yes. Food tithed to them? Yes. But not the responsibility of the Priesthood. How can that be a reward? I will explain later. Numbers 12:3,
(Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.) this is an amazing description of Moses however one of the definitions for meek is affliction. Affliction! Rephrase this
(Now the man Moses was very afflicted, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.) Afflicted: greatly distressed or troubled. 1 Peter 2:9,
¶ But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: Let’s put this into todays context. Do we consider the calling to discipleship a huge reward or inheritance? How about the call to being a Pastor or missionary? We should. Would we rather just go on about our lives saved but doing our own thing? As a Pastor and or disciple it’s hard. Don’t get me wrong Jesus said “my yoke is easy and burden is light”. However God will use this “ Priesthood” to transform us. We will be challenged in every way. Knowledge of scripture, rightly dividing word, forgiving, patience, controlling, legalism, serving, transparency, motives, blind spots etc. the result is not I but Christ! So yes! Whatever God has called you to, look at it as a huge reward because the result will be transformation if you don’t quit and are humble. God bless
