Focusing on Jesus
Pastor Yong Sub Sim
My hobby is to take pictures. The basic skill for taking a photo is to focus on the object that I desire capturing. If I fail to focus on what I want to capture, I cannot get the photo that I wanted, or expected. To take a good picture, I need to understand the object that I hope to capture and find the details that have intrigued me. The purpose of this skill has two intentions. The first is to emphasize the object and capture the beautiful feelings inspired in my deep heart by the object. The second is to distinguish the object from its background. This is also a way to emphasize the object and honor the beautiful and meaningful image in my deep heart. This is the basis for taking a good picture. After this process, I print it out and show it and share it with others. This is my pleasure in taking a picture.
In my ministry in the church, I have emphasized focusing on Jesus because I believe that he is the core, the center, of Christianity, of becoming a true Christian, of being the true church and of true Christian worship (Mathew 17:4-9). This philosophy of ministry—my preaching, teaching and healing ministry in the church—is clearly matched with the basics of taking a picture. The meaning of becoming a Christian or having Christian faith is to focus on Jesus alone for our entire life (following). It means that Jesus is the priority of our life in the world. It means that Jesus is the ultimate standard for value and meaning for our earthly life as well. This week as we focus on Jesus, we focus in detail on Jesus’s passion and crucifixion.
