Mountain View Christian Church

Is a congregation of free people who believe that Jesus is the Christ, The only begotten son of God (John 3:16-17). We hold no denominational affiliation with any organization, but we share in faith and hope with all whose lives bring honor to the Lord Jesus Christ. MEMBERSHIP in the local congregation is regarded merely as a partnership in the local activities (only Christ adds, or takes away, membership in the kingdom, the church). Membership in the local congregation is reserved for those who have acknowledged Christ as lord by public confession of their faith, repentance from sin, Baptism for their remission of sin, and a daily life that is guided by the Holy Spirit. We meet as a body of believers to share in the study of the Scripture and worship in singing, praying, giving of tithes and offerings, participating in the Lord's Supper, and preaching of the word of God. We practice the Lord's Supper because Jesus said to do it (I Corinthians 11) and the apostles give us their example. We practice BAPTISM (by immersion) because Jesus did, and because the early church did (Acts 2, 8, 9, 10, 16, 19). We believe as Christ apostles, that baptism is a component of saving faith (I Peter 3:20-21; Romans 6:3-6; Galatians 3:27; Ephesians 4:1-7). We believe, as did the apostle Peter (Acts 2:38-39), that God has promised the Holy Spirit as a gift to all who believe the gospel and who are baptized for the remission of their sin. This local congregation is led and guided by men whose lives are known to the local congregation and this local community (I Timothy 3; Titus 1, 2, 3).

“Don’t choose a church because the stage looks like a concert and the sermon sounds like a TED Talk. Production can’t save you. A vibe can’t sanctify you. An emotion can’t feed you. Go where Christ is preached. Go where sin is named, and grace is offered. Go where the Bible is opened, not just quoted. Go where the gospel is the main thing, every week. And go often.”

Psalm 100:1-2, Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth.
Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before Him with joyful singing.

Who is a servant of God? We are! Some people think that believers are separated into two groups: servants (individuals in full-time ministry) and laypeople. The Bible makes no such distinction. Instead, Paul—a tentmaker by trade—reminds the Ephesians that believers are saved so that they might serve (Ephesians 2:10).

If there were no other reason to serve God besides gratitude for salvation, that would be cause enough. We are rescued and given eternal life along with the Holy Spirit’s indwelling presence. Our service is an acknowledgment of all the Father did for us by sending His Son.

Many people, believers included, serve the big “I.” In other words,
they’re continually thinking, What do I find satisfying and pleasing? What do I need to be happy and prosperous? Here’s a harsh reality and a simple way to remember it: If “I” is our master, we are committing I-dolatry. Anything given first place over God—including selfish desires—is an idol.

Service isn’t just a good idea. God calls us to be servants so we can each invest our life in an eternally valuable purpose: the salvation of others and their subsequent discipleship for His glory. Our job may seem small or our limitations great, but the truth is that we’re all servants of Christ with a role in the kingdom.
