Remove far from me vanity and lies: Give me neither poverty nor riches; Feed me with food convenient for me:
Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? Or lest I be poor, and steal, And take the name of my God in vain.
- Proverbs 30:8-9

Oh, God...make it so for me.

In a recent conversation, someone shared an observation they have. Basically it was this:
"When I think back to most of the failures and fallouts I have seen over the years, there is a common denominator among the 'decision makers' - pride and ego"

That got me thinking.

The Bible clearly teaches, so God clearly says, that pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. (from Proverbs 16:18)
We know that proverb is true because so is this principle:
"God resisteth the proud..." - James 4:6 and I Peter 5:5.

Destruction and a fall are weighty consequences.

Christian,
You can survive a bad decision, and you can recover from a wrong choice; but pride is destructive and devastating. Humble yourself under the mighty hand of God and he will exalt you in due time.

Pray you will *do* God's will, and also pray you will *be* God’s will--humble.

"Some of you seek for faith much in the same way as you would dig for a well. You turn the eye inward upon yourself and search amidst the depths of your polluted heart to find if faith is there; you search amid all your feelings at sermons and sacraments to see if faith is there; and still you find nothing but sin and disappointment. Learn Martha's plan. She looked full in the face of Jesus; she saw his dust-soiled feet and sullied garment, and his eye of more than human tenderness. She drank in his word: 'I am the resurrection and the life'; and in spite of all she saw and all she felt, she could not but believe. The discovery that Jesus made of his love and power, as the head of dead believers and the head of living believers, revived her fainting soul, and she cried: 'Yea, Lord, I believe.' Faith comes by hearing the voice of Jesus."

Robert Murray M'Cheyne, from Comfort In Sorrow

Rahab, the harlot, by God's grace was also the great-great grandmother of David and in the lineage of our Lord Jesus Christ.

God won't change what you've done in your past, but he will change you...and your future.

Buy the truth, and sell it not... - from Proverbs 23:23

In a world where truth is fallen in the streets, be careful of what is being sold as truth.

"I am...the truth" - Jesus

"Thy Word is truth" - Jesus to the Father

"...he will guide you into all truth" - Jesus, about the Holy Spirit

Stay in the Bible and close to the Lord.

"...ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." - Jesus to obedient disciples

The truth will cost you; but it is worth it.

Don't sell it. And don't sell out.

"We are never too small, we are never too insignificant, that we cannot be used of God." - Robert J. Sargent

"God called us to be faithful, not famous." - Tom Fryman

Christian,

Stay faithful.

If you are serving the Lord Jesus, then you're part of the greatest thing happening on earth right now.

What a privilege!

"A constant duty for Christians is to stay vigilant in two areas of their life: their holiness to God, and their harmony with each other."

Darrell Sparks

"It is love's delight to endure hardships, to bear burdens for the object loved. [Love] is not satisfied till it has found an opportunity of embodying itself in a service involving cost, labor, or pain. The things from which selfishness shrinks, love ardently longs for." - A.B. Bruce

That last sentence is powerful.

"...by love serve one another."

"Do all things without murmurings and disputings"

Here are two commands from God, through Paul, relating to how we serve. They are seen in both positive and negative ways--what you should have when serving, and what you should not have.

Christian, don't underestimate the power of being content, and letting it show.
