Anyone ever see Truth in concert?

Before Natalie Grant had a record deal. Before Mark Harris, Andy Chrisman, Marty Magehee, and Kirk Sullivan became 4Him. Before Steve Green and Jody McBrayer went on to their own careers — they were all standing on the same stage, in the same matching outfits, singing for a group most people have never heard of.

It was called Truth. In 1971, a University of Mobile professor named Roger Breland loaded about fifteen singers and musicians into three station wagons and a truck and started touring churches, colleges, and youth events. Over the next thirty-one years, Truth became something like a farm system for Christian music — a constantly rotating cast of four men and eight women who played thousands of concerts across more than two dozen countries and wore out three million miles of highway. More than 400 different singers passed through the group over its history.

Some of them became pastors and youth ministers. Some — like the four guys a Benson Records rep spotted in the crowd one night in the late 1980s — got pulled aside and offered their own group. They left in 1990 and became 4Him. Others went solo and became names of their own.

In 2001, after a year of prayer, Breland decided it was time to close it down. "For the past year my family and I have been praying about our future," he said, and Truth played its final concert in Nashville the following June. The group itself never became a household name. But trace the family tree of Christian music back far enough, and an awful lot of roads lead through that one traveling group.

Did you ever see Truth in concert — at a church, a college, a youth rally? Tell us where, and who you remember standing on that stage.

Praise the Lord with us for answered prayers!

Thank you to everyone who prayed for our visa situation. It has been a whole thing with a lot of ups and downs and a big learning curve. All that said, we can officially say we now have our “missionary visa,” and all we need to do now is renew it yearly (in country).

We are very grateful for everyone here who helped us and guided us through this process and for the many prayer warriors who have prayed us through it. There were many unknowns throughout this process but God knew and had it all under control. We are back home now are ready to sleep in our own beds tonight. 😅
