Eutychus Wasn't Lucky” - by Reverend Rick
“And there sat in a window a certain young man named Eutychus, being fallen into a deep sleep: and as Paul was long preaching, he sunk down with sleep, and fell down from the third loft, and was taken up dead.” -Acts 20:9
The name “Eutychus” combines two Greek words, and means “good fortune”, or “lucky”.
After his death, Eutychus was miraculously revived by Paul. That may sound like “a lucky break for Lucky”. But Eutychus was neither lucky nor fortunate. He was BLESSED, as are all Christians, because God, loving and gracious, does not condemn us for our weakness and limitations, knowing that His followers are not yet perfected in body or mind. That does not mean we should be irresponsible, but it should comfort us when we struggle in our efforts to be more like Christ.

Jesus Loves Me – by Reverend Rick
Many people sang “Jesus Love Me” as children. Christians should rejoice, knowing that Christ's divine love spans past, present, and future.
The Past: Nearly 2000 years ago, Paul wrote, “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners”[I Timothy 1]. Long before we were born – in fact, before Genesis 1:1 – Jesus loved us; He took human form to provide a means of salvation.
The Present: The Christian has a new life [II Corinthians 5], a new purpose [Ephesians 2], and can thrive and grow spiritually because blessings through Christ include the Holy Spirit [John 14], the Bible [II Timothy 3], and the privilege of prayer [Hebrews 4].
The Future: Jesus Himself will return to Earth and take us to be with Him forever [I Thessalonians 4]. Our destiny is sure, glorious, permanent [I Peter 1], and greater than we can imagine [I Corinthians 2].
Every Christian should live with the confidence, power, and hope found in the simple words: “Jesus Loves Me”

“Faithful Unto Death: - by Reverend Rick

In the late 16th century, books were expensive. Many British churches had two books available for reading, but chained to a table to prevent theft. One of the books was an English version Bible; the other, Foxe's Book of Martyrs.
From Stephen [in Acts 7] to the 1600s, Foxe told of Christian martyrs. He updated the book three times. The book has been updated innumerable times since, adding accounts of other believers into the 21st century.
Why is this book so popular?
It's not for sensational or disturbing stories, though there are plenty of those; it is not to cause fear. It is to inspire and encourage! The book's original title was A History of the Lives, Sufferings, and Triumphant Deaths of Many of the Primitive As Well As Protestant Martyrs.
“Triumphant Deaths”: Christians should be inspired by the bravery of other believers who were “faithful unto death”. Christians should be motivated to live in an equally faithful way. Jesus said, “ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake” [Luke 21] Whether or not we are martyred, Christians should value honoring God above even their own lives.
Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.” [Psalm 116:15]
Christians still suffer and die for their faith.
International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church is November 2nd.

Gossip and the Gospel – by Reverend Rick

“By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples,
if ye have love one to another.” - Jesus [John 13]
Unsaved people have to witness us loving each other to believe we follow Jesus. But often they see Christians who gossip about each other as much or more than worldly people do! I have found that many Christians who are upset with me [with or without good reason] will complain about it – to several other people, but not to me.
Since Reformation Day is this month, I'll share Martin Luther's opinion: “Is your brother a sinner? Then cover his sin and pray for him. Do you publish his sins? Then truly you are not a child of your merciful Father; for otherwise you would be like He, merciful.”
Christian, be eager to forgive, not eager to gossip. For the closeness of your relationship with God, for the unity of believers, for the sake of the gospel. Unsaved people are watching you. Why would they believe that God can change their lives when they can't tell that He has changed yours?

“Pray without ceasing.” - by Reverend Rick
I Thessalonians 5:17, “Pray without ceasing”, has only three words [just two in Greek], but they are packed with power. “Without ceasing” does not mean we must pray nonstop every moment of our lives. It has also been translated “Pray persistently”; “Pray at all times”; “Constantly pray”; and “Never stop praying.” The Greek word expressing “without ceasing” was used by doctors to describe a persistent cough. The afflicted person did not literally cough without ceasing every moment of the day, but coughed often, for the littlest reason, or sometimes for no apparent cause at all. We could say, “Always be prone to pray”. Are you ready, willing, and able to go to God in prayer over any matter, great or small, or simply because you desire to talk to Him? Perhaps if we realized more fully what a blessing prayer is, we'd all be more prone to pray.
