As the U.S. Bishops prepare to consecrate our nation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus this week and we prepare locally for Archbishop Checchio to consecrate the Archdiocese of New Orleans to the Sacred Heart of Jesus on Sunday, June 14, please consider sharing the recent “The Point Man Podcast” in which Archbishop Checchio gives a very full explanation of what we are doing as an archdiocese and what, through the graces of the this consecration and the power of the Holy Spirit, he hopes to see happen in our local Catholic Church.

COMMUNITY INFORMATIONAL MEETING

Charter Schools USA is exploring the possibility of opening a TUITION-FREE public charter elementary school at the former Ascension of Our Lord School campus in LaPlace. This will start out as a satellite campus, with the intent of opening a full campus within the next few years.

To determine community interest and potential enrollment, a public informational meeting will be held on Thursday, June 11th, at 6pm.

Parents, grandparents, and community members are encouraged to attend and learn more about this potential educational option for families in St. John the Baptist Parish and surrounding areas.

If you are interested in additional school choice opportunities for your child, or simply want to learn more about what a charter school could offer our community, we encourage you to attend.

There is no obligation to enroll. This meeting is being held to gather information and gauge community interest.

Charter Schools USA is not affiliated with Ascension of Our Lord Church Parish. For more information, questions, or concerns, please attend the meeting on Thursday.

Please join us this Thursday, June 4th, at 6pm for Holy Hour as we begin the Novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus in preparation for the Consecration of the Archdiocese and our homes to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Today, the Church has celebrated the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima, commemorating the first time the Blessed Mother appeared to Lucia, Jacinta, and Francisco in Fatima, Portugal in 1917.

As she instructed the three young children to pray, may these words be on our lips today:

Join us on Saturday, May 16th for our annual Feast Day Celebration! We will begin with a Bilingual Rosary at 3pm followed by 4pm Mass celebrated by our new Archbishop, Most Rev. James Checchio. Following Mass, we will have food and fellowship in the Savio Center. All are invited!

The St. Carlo Acutis Eucharistic Miracles Exhibit will be available for viewing this weekend at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in the Family Life Center. We invite all parishioners who may not have had the opportunity to view the exhibit when on display here at AOL earlier this year to take some time out this weekend to view it, as well as anyone who may want to view it again.

In a letter to the faithful, Archbishop James Checchio announced that he will consecrate the Archdiocese of New Orleans to the Sacred Heart of Jesus on Sunday, June 14, 2026. He also requested the faithful to pray in preparation. To fulfill this request, Ascension Of Our Lord will do the following:
Beginning on Divine Mercy Sunday, April 12, at each Mass, we will begin praying the “Prayer in Preparation for the Consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus”. Prayer Cards are available in the rear of the Church.

On Thursday, June 4, 2026, we will have a Holy Hour, 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. in the Church marking the beginning of the “Novena in Preparation for Enthronement of the Home to the Sacred Heart of Jesus”. Copies of the Novena will be in the bulletin and in the rear of the Church the weekend before it starts.

The weekend of June 14, after each Mass, we will pray the Prayer of Consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. 8 X 10 images of the Sacred Heart will be blessed and distributed at each Mass.
