Lansing Urban Neighborhood Church

Lansing Urban Neighborhood Church The church goes to the neighborhood instead of trying to get the neighborhood to come to church!

Our church will grow from the community as we build relationships, creatively serve, create avenues for community and life to happen, and share Jesus' message of life! As people respond to God, a church will grow that reflects that neighborhood.

Our Lansing urban neighborhood Encounter and Life Together groups are just starting. Enjoy and grow and serve together as God works in and through us in everyday life. Give me a shout if interested at [email protected]

Reorienting our thinking about how to become a "missional, incarnational" church rather than an "institutional" church structure. It doesn't make one better than another, and there are some common ground (like our ultimate goal), but they do have distictively different dynamics.

Vision statement vs. vision lifestyle. A statement often becomes a goal to be fulfilled through tools, programs, and resources. A vision lifestyle is a way of life... integrated into every aspect of who we are and how we live - Church Unique (an excellent book)

It's wonderful to see how God knits things, people, events together when you start walking into unknown territory - no history, little resources, few connections ... only some faithful prayers and dependence on God. You can hear about some of these testimonies at the Join us for LUNCH info meeting this Sunday night. If you're interested and don't have the info... see previous post.

Had lunch with Bruce Cromwell... pastor @ Central Free Methodist. They've grown ministries to refugees, homeless, a Haitian congregation, those struggling with drugs, etc, as they partner with others in the city in a variety of ways. Inspiring to see them represent Jesus in so many ways... and great to connect together!

Give your input on the discussion board of this page: "What does a church who is reaching our culture look like?"

"It is an innate desire of every believer to attempt great things for God." - Hirsch. Of course there is also something innate in us that pulls the exact opposite direction into comfort and distraction by temporary things.

This week we hope to finalize the selling of a facility left to us! We've developed a connection with a small congregation (a "jump and shout" group - their words!) and they are looking to buy it. It's a God thing in this economy... and a win/win for both of us. Plus, looking forward to partnering with them as our church takes shape... they are a great bunch!

WooHoo! We are taking early steps. Some of the SEED team and prayer group attended Imagine This church when Tim got to speak. They are a great partner in this church plant!
