Red Cedar Friends Meeting

Red Cedar Friends Meeting We are the local Quaker group (the Religious Society of Friends). We now worship virtually. and 10:30. The children's program begins at 10:15. Thank you.

For info about online Monday and Wednesday worship opportunities, contact us. When the health emergency ends, we will again meet for Worship two times every Sunday in our Meeting House -- at 9 a.m. A social time follows the 10:30 Worship. Address: 1400 Turner St., Lansing, Michigan. Red Cedar Friends Meeting is an unprogrammed Quaker meeting. At an unprogrammed meeting for worship, Friends gather

in expectant silence, out of which those who are led to speak offer vocal ministry. We do not have pastors, a formal program for worship, organized communal prayers, or planned hymn-singing. We are open, affirming, and appreciative of spiritual seekers. We are diverse by age, and people come from many religious backgrounds and traditions. As a community, we are committed to traditional Quaker testimonies of equality, simplicity, stewardship, integrity, and peace. When visiting us, please refrain from using products with fragrances (natural or not). The fewer scented products (e.g., perfumes, aftershave, lotions, body washes, shampoos, cosmetics, laundry soap, and fabric softeners) we all use, the more likely people with respiratory conditions, chemical sensitivities and allergies will be able to enjoy and participate fully in our Meeting.

Maryann Concannon named co-clerk of Green Pastures Quarterly Meeting

The officers of Green Pastures Quarterly Meeting (GPQM) are pleased to announce that Maryann Concannon, of Red Cedar Meeting, has agreed to serve as co-clerk of the Quarter for a two-year term, starting July 1, 2021.

Maryann is a recorded member of Red Cedar (RCF). She has been a member of the RCF Worship and Pastoral Care, Hospitality, and now Adult Religious Education committees. Maryann is active in Lake Erie Year Meeting as RCF representative and has served on LEYM’s Ministry and Nurture Committee for the past year. As a member of Ministry and Nurture, she taught a Bible study course from February to June 2021.

The usual GPQM procedure is to approve new officers at the Annual Meeting in May but Nominating Committee did not have a nominee at that time. As provided by the GPQM bylaws, if a vacancy arises in any position before the Annual Meeting for Business (i.e., next spring), the Nominating Committee shall propose a name of a person to fill the vacancy to the officers for approval. Any person so approved by the officers shall serve in the role until the next business session of the Quarterly Meeting (September 18), at which time “the Quarterly Meeting shall either approve the nomination or make its own appointment to the position.”

GPQM Annual Worship and Picnic, August 9 in Battle Creek

Every year in early August Green Pastures Quarterly Meeting remembers the anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and celebrates peace in the historic Quaker Park in Battle Creek.

With the park now open, GPQM is able to continue this tradition with in-person worship planned for 11 a.m., August 9, outdoors at Quaker Park. Worship will be followed by a picnic, with Friends asked to bring their own chair, food, beverage, and mask. Of course, we will remain attentive to public health advice from the State of Michigan and adjust our plans as necessary.

All are welcome.

"As for Ehrhardt, the Vietnam veteran, was it possible to gather with God over Zoom? 'Let me think for a minute before I speak,' he said. We sat in silence. 'I think so,' he continued. 'Most of us are quiet enough to hear the gentle voice.'' (Red Cedar Friends is also worshiping together via Zoom at 10:30 each Sunday morning. Send a message if you would like to join us.)

Quakerism goes virtual, offering an intimate window into silent worship.

Even when we're apart, together we are Friends!

Discover opportunities for virtual Meeting for Worship with FGC Friends and through Quaker organizations like Pendle Hill and Ben Lomond Quaker Center:

Even when we worship apart, together we are Friends! FGC created this resource for Friends, Quaker newcomers, and spiritual seekers who want to worship online with Friends during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.

Living into Wholeness: Quaker Commitment to Honoring That of God in Everyone

Our next Spiritual Deepening eRetreat invites you to explore and practice what it means to live into Beloved Community, the ways we are called to recognize patterns of marginalization and exclusion and to act toward justice, and tools for transforming and vitalizing our meetings and communities.

The Living into Wholeness eRetreat will be offered from April 12 - May 11, 2020. Weekly Community Building video calls are scheduled for Mondays at 7pm Eastern, starting April 13, for five weeks. Michele Shields of Honolulu Friends Meeting will be the facilitator for this eRetreat

What Canst Thou Say? - Spiritual Inquiry Grounded in Worship Sharing
Offering a new twist to the eRetreat format, What Canst Thou Say will foster spiritual community through a focus on worship sharing around the Bible and the Quaker tradition, using passages from texts by Friends (and others) and the Bible verses that informed them. This will be a work-in-progress, so each week may be different from previous ones. No experience with the Bible or Quaker history is necessary. Everyone is welcome.

What Canst Thou Say will meet weekly on Saturdays starting April 11 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm ET via Zoom for worship, worship sharing, and spiritual exploration. Friends and spiritual sojourners Mark Wutka and Mary Linda McKinney will facilitate our sessions each week.

Reach out to me with any questions you have about our newest opportunities. Though we are in the midst of uncertain times, I am thankful for the comfort and connection of the Quaker community, and to know Friends like you.
