Dear FPC Lansdowne Family,

By now, I think most of you know that starting this coming Monday, June 22nd, I will be beginning my work as a commissioner to the 227th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA). With that in mind, I wanted to take this time to let you know about the work that I will be doing, as well as the plans we’ve made for while I am away.

The 227th (2026) General Assembly (GA) will convene both online and in person in Milwaukee, WI. For two weeks, the General Assembly will meet in committees, then in plenary to discuss various items of interest, discussion, and debate concerning the present and future of our denomination. If you’re unfamiliar with GA, think of it like the US Congress, but for our Church. Commissioners are elected from each of our presbyteries (like states), then they come together once every two years to vote on overtures, resolutions, and changes to the PCUSA constitution (the Book of Confessions & the Book of Order).

This year, I’ve been selected to serve on the Reformed Identity in the United States (RUS) committee. Among other things, we will be deliberating things like: the denomination’s position on White Christian Nationalism, Artificial Intelligence, the Doctrine of Discover, and a potential new Confession.

Please be in prayer not just for me, but for each of the 600+ commissioners who will be engaging in this work to the larger Church!

The business of the GA will begin on June 22nd and conclude on July 2nd, and Allison and I will be on brief vacation until July 7th to allow time for me to decompress from this work.

While I’m away, we’ve got some great worship planned! Please come join the saints of the church as they worship!

If there is a pastoral care concern or emergency while I am away, please contact one of our Deacons, who will triage the situation. For all other things, please contact one of our Elders, or Clerk of Session.

I’ll be back in the office on Tuesday, July 7th, and I’ll look forward to starting to sift through messages I missed while I was away then.

Again, please be in prayer for all those at the General Assembly this year; for our shared discernment of the Holy Spirit, and that we can continue to seek the peace, unity, and purity of the church.
