"Run in such a way as to get the prize." – 1 Corinthians 9:24

As the world turns its attention to the World Cup, Rev. Jules reminds us that we are each running a race of our own. The good news is that God's purpose for your life is uniquely yours. We are not in competition with one another. Instead, we can encourage each other, celebrate one another's victories, and keep moving forward together.

This week, stay focused on the path God has set before you. Keep running with faith, determination, and hope, knowing that He has created you for a purpose.

May grace and peace be yours today and throughout the week.

For more than 20 years, Lillie Flowers has been part of the VOACC family. We are pleased to shine the spotlight on her today as part of our yearlong 130th anniversary celebration!

Starting as a clerical assistant at a residential program center in Arlington, Virginia, Lillie has supported our mission in many ways over the years, from payroll and human resources to staff training and accounts payable.

What she remembers most is seeing lives change through the care and commitment of VOACC staff.

“I saw many clients come into the shelter or detox program with acute needs. Through the work of the caring VOACC staff and their great professionalism, most left with confidence and a place to call their own.”

Thank you, Lillie, for 20 years of dedication and service. ❤️

As we move through this week, it's easy to focus on the size of the challenges in front of us. A difficult situation, an uncertain future, or a task that feels bigger than we are.

This week, Rev. Jules Christian reminds us to shift our focus.

No matter what you're carrying today, God is bigger. Bigger than our worries. Bigger than our setbacks. Bigger than anything we face.

Take a moment to pause, pray, and remember that you are held securely in God's hands.

Pride Month is a time to celebrate love and acceptance and the importance of community.

At VOACC, our work is about people. We serve others with care and compassion, recognizing their inherent worth and walking alongside them during difficult seasons and moments of transition.

For 35 years, Mona Magruder has served the Baltimore community through VOACC’s residential behavioral health program. She is currently our longest-tenured employee, and we are excited to feature her as part of this year’s 130th anniversary celebration.

Mona truly embodies our mission to empower self-reliance and inspire hope. She recently shared that one of her most impactful moments at VOACC was watching a consumer achieve his dream of earning a college degree.

“Supporting him meant more than providing service. That day reaffirmed our mission. It reminded me that progress is not always loud or linear. Sometimes it’s a single voice finally being heard. Sometimes it’s a walk across a stage that once felt impossible. And sometimes it’s the privilege of witnessing someone reclaim their life and knowing you played even a small part in the journey.”

Through their dedication, lives are touched, communities are strengthened, and people are reminded they are not alone. We are grateful for each volunteer who continues to help bring hope and spiritual support to those we serve every day.

As we begin a new month, take a moment to remember this truth: you were created with purpose. ✨

In Psalm 139, we are reminded that God knit each of us together and made us fearfully and wonderfully. Your gifts, your story, and your life are not accidents. God created you intentionally and loves you deeply.

As we enter June, may you find encouragement in knowing that you are seen, valued, and called for a purpose!
