"Realizing that our Christian life is an unending journey, we strive to minister to all people with God's compassion and love. Abrams built a small church at a location on the Hagedorn on South Fifth Avenue where the Presbyterians, Baptist, Methodists and Christians held services. The Baptist were the first to pull out, then the Methodists and then the Presbyterians

they all built their own Church buildings. In 1896 the Lanett Christian Church was organized by Rev. Elder along with Charter Members: Mr&Mrs. W.N. Partridge, C.F. C.B. Terrell, Annie Terrell, Clara Terrell, Theodore Terrell, Ivor Terrell, Myrtis Terrell, Mr&Mrs T.S. Crowder, Miss Crowder. All continued to worship in the original building until it was sold. In 1898 a lot at the corner of South Eighth Street and South Sixth Avenue was purchased a bell was purchased and place in the steeple, then first services were held in the spring. In 1922 another Church was built next door to the existing Church the bell was moved to the new Church and the old Church was torn down. In 1933 a building fund was started by Rev. L. Stanley to build a new Church. In 1953 Rev. Joe A. French was Pastor when the building was to be realized. The land was donated to the Church by the Lanett Bleachery and Dye Works. Under the leadership of Rev. French a colonial brick building was being built on the land at South Eighth Avenue, South Tenth Street, South Seventh Avenue and South Jennings Avenue. The bell that hung in the first church was placed in the steeple and services began in the new church on November 22, 1953. On May 19, 1969 the 16 year old Church building was destroyed by a undetermined fire. A rebuilding campaign began immediately and on February 23, 1970 the steeple and cross was raised into position. The 73 year old bell was rehung in the steeple belfry. The same wooden cross, made from wood taken from the Church built in 1898 was repaired and placed on the front of the building. The building was completed in June 1970, however due to a manufacture error the pews were not completed until December 1970, so the services were held in the Fellowship hall until they were installed. The first services were held in the sanctuary Christmas Sunday, December 20, 1970. The Church has had many wonderful Pastors and is still standing with the most loving congregation you could ask for with a mission to grow and continue in the service of the Kingdom of God.

We invited you to Palm Sunday Morning Service and annual Friend's Day 3/29/2026 for the message from Luke 23:13-25, “Choosing Barabbas.”

You all responded and you came as you were to find love, joy and peace. It was an awesome message and it was a blessing to hear the word of God.

It was also a joy and fun to gather with our many friends & family. So much joy we had to utilize the overflow room for the wonderful meal.

Thanks to all that helped put it together and take it down.
Your loving Church Family.

“The Messenger”
From Our Pastor

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to His great mercy He has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. 1 Peter 1:3

Henry Ford, the great American industrialist, was without question a man possessing a brilliant mind. He created the Model T in 1908 and went on to develop the assembly line of production, which revolutionized American industry. One of his more memorable statements was, “History is bunk.” I suppose if your life's work changes the world, as Ford's did, then you might be tempted to think this way.

Christianity, however, does not view history as “bunk.” Just the opposite. The Bible, from beginning to end, prioritizes the importance of history. There was an actual day in history when the Israelites crossed the Red Sea, when Joshua and Israel's army marched around Jericho, and when Daniel was lowered into the lion's den. Christianity is a historical faith. Christianity is based upon mighty works which God has done within history.

But no historical event was more important or more history-altering that the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. History tells us that Columbus crossed the ocean blue in 1492. It tells us that George Washington was our first president. And the Bible proclaims that there was an actual day in history when Jesus died upon a cross and then three days later rose again. And the Bible prophecies that there will be an actual day in history when the glorified Jesus comes again. All of this is simply a reminder that the Christian faith is based upon facts and truth!

To use another car illustration, it was in the early 1990's when Dodge launched the “Dodge Intrepid.” The ad slogan for this car went as follows: “This Changes Everything.” I'm not convinced that this can be said about any automobile, regardless of how many bells and whistles it may have. But I do know that, when it comes to the resurrection of Jesus Christ, we can truthfully say, “THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING.”

Our Easter Worship Service at Lanett Congregational Christian Church is April 5th at 11am. As we gather in worship on this joyful and holy day, I hope your heart and mind will be so filled with joy and wonder at the resurrection of Christ that you will find yourself saying, “THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING!”

Your grateful Pastor,
Mark

Happy Anniversary this April!

Tommy & Janice Fields – April 6

“6 But from the beginning of creation God made them male and female. 7 For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother, 8 and the two shall become one flesh; so they are no longer two, but one flesh. 9 What therefore God has joined together let no man separate” (NASB) Mark 10:6-9..... Dear Heavenly Father, Bless this ring, O Lord, that he who gives it and she who wears it may abide in Thy peace, and continue in Thy favor, unto their life’s end; through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
