In 1894 David L. Abrams built a small church at a location on the Hagedorn on South Fifth Avenue where the Presbyterians, Baptist, Methodists and Christians held services. The Baptist were the first to pull out, then the Methodists and then the Presbyterians they all built their own Church buildings. In 1896 the Lanett Christian Church was organized by Rev. H.W. Elder along with Charter Members: Mr&Mrs. W.H. Partridge, Mr&Mrs. W.N. Partridge, C.F. Partridge, Mr&Mrs. C.B. Terrell, Annie Terrell, Clara Terrell, Theodore Terrell, Ivor Terrell, Myrtis Terrell, Mr&Mrs T.S. Crowder, Miss Crowder. All continued to worship in the original building until it was sold. In 1898 a lot at the corner of South Eighth Street and South Sixth Avenue was purchased a bell was purchased and place in the steeple, then first services were held in the spring. In 1922 another Church was built next door to the existing Church the bell was moved to the new Church and the old Church was torn down. In 1933 a building fund was started by Rev. L. L. Stanley to build a new Church. In 1953 Rev. Joe A. French was Pastor when the building was to be realized. The land was donated to the Church by the Lanett Bleachery and Dye Works. Under the leadership of Rev. Joe A. French a colonial brick building was being built on the land at South Eighth Avenue, South Tenth Street, South Seventh Avenue and South Jennings Avenue. The bell that hung in the first church was placed in the steeple and services began in the new church on November 22, 1953. On May 19, 1969 the 16 year old Church building was destroyed by a undetermined fire. A rebuilding campaign began immediately and on February 23, 1970 the steeple and cross was raised into position. The 73 year old bell was rehung in the steeple belfry. The same wooden cross, made from wood taken from the Church built in 1898 was repaired and placed on the front of the building. The building was completed in June 1970, however due to a manufacture error the pews were not completed until December 1970, so the services were held in the Fellowship hall until they were installed. The first services were held in the sanctuary Christmas Sunday, December 20, 1970. The Church has had many wonderful Pastors and is still standing with the most loving congregation you could ask for with a mission to grow and continue in the service of the Kingdom of God.
