Proverbs 30:33 (KJV)

“Surely the churning of milk bringeth forth butter, and the wringing of the nose bringeth forth blood: so the forcing of wrath bringeth forth strife.”

This proverb teaches a simple but powerful truth: certain actions produce certain results.

Agur gives three illustrations:

Churning milk produces butter.
When milk is continually churned, butter is the natural result.
Wringing (twisting or striking) the nose produces blood.
Physical provocation brings an inevitable reaction.
Forcing wrath produces strife.
When anger is stirred up, provoked, or pressed, conflict is the inevitable result.

The Meaning

Just as milk churned becomes butter and a nose twisted bleeds, stirring up anger leads to arguments, division, and trouble. When people keep pressing an issue, speaking harshly, holding grudges, or provoking others, strife is usually the outcome.

Practical Application

Don’t provoke others unnecessarily.
Avoid fueling anger with angry words.
Walk away from quarrels before they escalate.
Seek peace rather than conflict.

This truth is echoed in Proverbs 15:1:

“A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.”

The lesson of Proverbs 30:33 is that if you sow anger, you will reap strife; if you pursue peace, you can often prevent conflict before it begins.
