You can’t fake what God is forming.

Acts 5 reminded us today, God isn’t after appearance, He’s after truth.
The early church wasn’t built on perfection, but on purity.

What we hold back, He already sees.
What we surrender, He can actually use.

“Great fear came upon the whole church…” (Acts 5:11 ESV)

A holy reminder: this matters

The Church in Unity.

Yesterday we saw Acts 4:32–37 unfold, a picture of the early church living as one in Christ.

Their unity wasn’t surface level. It was Spirit-deep.
They were of one heart and one soul, bound together by the resurrection life of Jesus.

That unity reshaped everything, including how they saw what they owned. Nothing was held as purely “mine.” Instead, generosity flowed naturally as needs arose among them.

The result was striking:
a community marked by care, provision, and visible grace—“no one was in need among them.”

And right in the middle of this snapshot, Luke highlights Barnabas, whose life embodied encouragement and sacrificial generosity.

This wasn’t an idealized moment, it was the reality of a church living under the lordship of Jesus.

So what does it look like for us to step into that same shared life today? Not just gathering, but becoming a people formed by grace together.

If there was one thing to hold onto from yesterday’s sermon,
it’s this:

We don’t have to keep looking.

Jesus is enough.
He’s always been enough.

I was there all week.

I saw Him enter the city—welcomed like a king.
I saw the tables fall in the temple, the shock on faces that had grown comfortable.
I heard about the fig tree—full, but empty.
I watched Him kneel, serving when no one else would.
I stood in the crowd as He carried the cross.

And yesterday…

nothing.

Silence.
A sealed tomb.
A kind of waiting none of us understood.

But this morning—

Everything changed.

The stone was rolled away.
The grave was empty.
And the words we couldn’t make sense of all week… suddenly became clear:

“He is not here, for he has risen, as he said.” — Matthew 28:6 (ESV)

The one who overturned tables
was restoring hearts.

The one who called out what was empty
was making all things new.

The one who knelt to serve
had conquered death itself.

I thought I had been watching a week unfold—

But I was witnessing a promise being fulfilled.

Standing on a hill he said:
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” — Acts 1:8 (ESV)

And because of that, I will see him again.

τετέλεσται

I recognized Him.

And I wasn’t the only one.

The man from the temple stood nearby—quiet now, the one who had watched his tables fall.
His followers were there too—closer, but grieving, like they didn’t understand how it had come to this.
Off to the side, the donkey stood forgotten… the same one that had carried Him as a king just days before.

And then I saw her.

The woman who had poured everything out at His feet.
The one they called wasteful.
She stood still—like she understood something the rest of us were just beginning to see.

We had all witnessed something different this week.

Power.
Disruption.
Humility.
Surrender.

But none of us expected this.

The One who overturned tables didn’t resist.
The One who exposed what wasn’t real said nothing.
The One who received her offering… now gave Himself.

And then it became clear—

This wasn’t the end of His work.
This was the purpose of it.

“He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree…” — 1 Peter 2:24 (ESV)

Not loss—
but love on full display.

“It is finished.” — John 19:30 (ESV)
