Friends of Historic Friendship Church

Friends of Historic Friendship Church When you walk into Historic Friendship Church you are taking a step back in time. The church was built 25 years after the end of the Revolutionary war.

Built in 1808, when Thomas Jefferson was still President, it still has the original gas lamps hanging from the ceiling. In fact, Archibald Campbell, one of the founders, was a Revolutionary War soldier and is buried in the cemetary. People first came to the Church by horse and wagon or by walking. Heat came from a wood stove and light came from kerosene lamps (still hanging in the Church today, se

e the photo!). While the Church has been modernized with electricity and heat much of the inside remains the same. In 2009, the Church was closed and the Friendship Cemetery Association purchased the Church and Social Hall. However, much work was needed to be done and cemetery funds could not be used. Repairs and maintenance have proved costly and help is needed to raise funds. The Buena Historical Society has stepped up and volunteered to help with fund raising and many other volunteers have given generous donations of money, time, materials and skills. Anyone who has contributed to the preservation of the Friendship Church is considered a 'Friend of Friendship'. Since closing, anniversary services, Christmas programs, weddings, and several community events are held each year. We invite you to join us! Historic Friendship Church is truly a jewel in the community that hopefully will be preserved for many years.
