In response to God's instruction for us to care for the world God created, we are planting a pollinator meadow and forest on 4 acres of the church property. This is in coordination with Allianceforthebay.org, InterfaithChesapeake.org, and MennoniteMen.org.

The meadow planting is on Nov. 6 and the tree planting is on Nov. 13. Both days are 9am-12pm. You are welcome to join in on the fun!

Landisville SWAP 2016

06/25/2016

After a long day of work and reflection we are finally off to bed. We look forward to coming home tomorrow! Our plan is to leave around 7:30am and arrive at church around 5:30pm. Landisville, here we come!

06/23/2016

Today was a wonderful day! A gully-washer stalled some of our "work". But it did give us a lot of quality time with our hosts. One group finished with their projects and will be moving to a new site tomorrow. After dinner a local folk artist and an EMU graduate from Lancaster county played Appalachia Bluegrass while all we tried our hand at square dancing. We're all looking forward to tomorrow, which will hopefully include work, a picnic by the lake, and some elk watching (if weather permits).

Where we saw the Holy Spirit today:

-In the small breeze that re-energized us on a hot day
-In the generous hospitality of our hosts
-In the conversations we shared with our new neighbors
-In a beautiful hibiscus
-In encouragement from SWAP staff and in two notes from Landisville folks
-In a festive evening of games and conversation with members of Hindman United Methodist Church

06/21/2016

After 11 hours on the road we finally rolled by Hindman United Methodist Church a little after 6:30pm...and then we promptly turned back around and found the parking lot. We received a warm welcome by the SWAP staff and had a brief orientation meeting. The group wound down with a few games around the table and a couple of ping-pong matches. There is a full day of SWAP-ing tomorrow and our mattresses are calling our names. Thank you for your prayers. We look forward to giving another update tomorrow night!

Here are a few highlights from the trip down:
-We were well sent by a note from Carolyn Rudy that included a few verses from Psalm 121.
-Ann & Richard kindly waited to eat their lunch until we stopped at a rest stop...the entire car was thankful because they brought tuna sandwiches.
-Brendan pacifistly(?) obliterated the world in a game of Risk.
-We discerned as a group that chickens do not have cheeks, but pigs do.
-We passed "Hungry Mother State Park".
-We share many stories and laughs.

Recognize that singing is, in and of itself, a sacred duty. Singing is important. Not just hearing the music playing, not just being taken emotionally to a place where we enjoy cuddle time in the lap of our nice daddy-god, but the actual act of singing.

A quick trip down Google’s memory lane reveals that the internet has been talking about this regularly since at least 2012. And everyone seems to know why.
