Juan Tafolla runs a digital literacy program with RSVP Volunteers in Kennett Square, and his approach is simple: he doesn't fix the problem for you. He shows you how to fix it yourself.
His five to six week workshops cover email, password management, Microsoft Word, Google Docs and online safety. They serve Hispanic community members, seniors and anyone who needs a hand with the basics. The first cohort walked away with their own laptops to keep.
When you know how to get online, you apply for assistance programs, contact your elected officials and show up more informed at the polls. Juan sees digital access and civic engagement as the same thing.
Spanish-language sessions are running now at Mighty Writers in Toughkenamon through late December. English sessions start in early 2025.
