The gospel in short or , a nut shell...
Mark 16:15-16
[15]And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the GOSPEL to every creature.
[16]He that BELIEVETH AND IS BAPTIZED shall be SAVED; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
In that man chosen to sin, but God has made a way to redeem man by Jesus. By Jesus' death, burial and resurrection.
1 Corinthians 15:1-4
[1]Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
[2]By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
[3]For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
[4]And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
Faith is an absolute must.
Hebrews 11:6
[6]But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Romans 10:17
[17]So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
But... it's not , cannot ever be faith alone. Faith requires action, showing that you have faith.
Infact, faith alone is dead.
James 2:20
[20]But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
What about repentance?
We must repent also (change our direction, not continue to do sinful things as a manner of life) , so it cannot be faith alone.
Luke 13:5
[5]I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
Acts 17:30
[30]And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:
So, faith is essential, repentance is essential. But sin is not removed by faith, sin is not removed by repentance.
Fortunately, as part of the gospel, we can obey God/Jesus to receive remission of sins.
Acts 2:38
[38]Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Acts 22:16
[16]And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.
This is all done in obedience to God. He gives salvation to those that obey him.
Hebrews 5:9
[9]And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;
We must obey live faithfully to him, even to the point of death.
Revelation 2:10-11
[10]Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.
[11]He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.
Why not just simply do what God says to do?
