DEPART FROM ME!!!
Do you realized that these words are addressing the VERY RELIGIOUS people, who THOUGHT they had done the Lord's will? Jesus has delivered to us what he expects from us. We are not to devise our OWN means of salvation. We must HEAR AND DO what HE says. If he is our saviour, HE ALONE decides what is required for salvation.
What the world says, will NOT save. The "religious" world says to pray to the Lord for salvation. The "religious" world says to ask Jesus into your heart.
But what does Jesus, the very son of God say about salvation? After all, he has been given ALL POWER, and we are TO OBSERVE ALL THAT HE COMMANDS....
Matthew 28:18-20
[18]And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, ALL POWER is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
[19]Go ye therefore, and TEACH all nations, BAPTIZING them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
[20]Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Mark 16:16
[16]He that BELIEVETH AND is BAPTIZED SHALL BE SAVED; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
BELIEF AND BAPTISM are ABSOLUTELY required. To deny that, is to deny JESUS'S terms of salvation. Why not simply obey HIM if he really is to be the lord and saviour of your life??
Please don't listen the "religious" folk, listen instead to Jesus. He offers salvation on HIS terms.
Luke writes that salvation comes by remission of sin. Luke 1:77
[77]To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins,
Later in the last chapter of Luke, he writes....Luke 24:47
[47]And that REPENTANCE and REMISSION OF SINS should be PREACHED in his name among all nations, BEGINNING AT JERUSALEM.
Later in the book of Acts, (most likely written by Luke) the apostle Peter (in Jerusalem, just as Luke recorded) says how remission of sins comes...
Acts 2:38
[38]Then Peter said unto them, REPENT, AND BE BAPTIZED every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ FOR THE REMISSION OF SINS, ....
From Romans we learn that confession is also required for salvation....
Romans 10:10
[10]For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
In Acts chapter 8, we can see WHAT was confessed...
Acts 8:37
[37]And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I BELIEVE THAT JESUS CHRIST IS THE SON OF GOD.
So we can see that BELIEF, REPENTANCE, CONFESSION AND BAPTISM are part of the terms of salvation that Jesus Christ has given.
And the beauty of this is, that it all is in harmony with God's word.
