Laurel Street Mennonite Church

Laurel Street Mennonite Church Church We are a small diverse urban Mennonite congregation wanting to be salt and light in our Cabbage Hill corner of Lancaster Pa.

We gather every Sunday morning in the name of Jesus to worship, study the scriptures together, share joys and pray for the needs among us. We strive to foster healthy friendships, a safe place for our children and youth, and joyful laughter and fun for everyone. Various age groups meet to learn how to follow Jesus in the midst of our daily, sometimes difficult lives. Each of us is imperfect and w

ounded by painful experiences, but we have received the abundant grace of God and want to pass it on! We count it as a privilege to be active in our neighborhood in such ways as Day Camp for children, collaborating with Cabbage Hill Neighbors, sponsoring health fairs, "Go Green" events, services projects, diversity days, game nights, music festivals and more. Our doors are open for you to visit us anytime!

We invite you to join us for our annual Service of the Longest Night on Friday, December 20th at 7 pm. We will gather to light candles on the longest night of the year, and to pray for healing for recent personal losses and for the healing of the nations around the globe.

In this season of excitement and celebration, we remember that deep love for God and for each other often comes accompanied with grief and heartfelt pain. This time together provides an opportunity for all of our neighbors and friends to feel welcome to bring their unique combinations of sorrow and joy, of pain and hope, into a quiet space of singing and silence and prayer.

This service, sometimes called "Blue Christmas" will feature congregational and recorded songs, scripture readings, and multiple opportunities for attenders to light candles in memory of dear ones or in prayer for needs that are weighing on their hearts.

The season of Advent begins this Sunday, December 1. In our worship, we will be engaging a series called Words for the Beginning from A Sanctified Art.

From the writers...
"Advent is a season of endings and beginnings. As the calendar year comes to a close, a new church year begins. Christ’s birth ushers us into new ways of living and loving; and yet, the world as we know it spins madly on...

As you journey through this season, may you find words for belovedness and hope. May you find words for beginning again. For no matter what you are facing, no matter what this new day brings, love is your beginning."

We invite you to join us on this journey.
