🌿 Holy Week at Historic Bangor Church: A Journey Through Holy Love 🌿

For over 300 years, Bangor Episcopal Church has stood as a beacon of faith in Churchtown, PA. Founded in 1722 by Welsh settlers, our congregation has witnessed generations walking the sacred path from the Last Supper to the empty tomb. This Holy Week, we invite you to join us in commemorating the profound love and sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

Maundy Thursday – April 17 🍽 6:00 PM – Lamb Dinner (Church House) Gather with us for our traditional Lamb Dinner. Bring a dish to share—vegetable, salad, or bread—as we begin this sacred evening in fellowship.

🦶 7:00 PM – Maundy Thursday Eucharist, Rite II (Church) Experience the humility and service of Christ through the Foot Washing ceremony, where Fr. Mark will wash the feet of three designated congregants. The service concludes with the solemn Stripping and Washing of the Altar, symbolizing Jesus' journey to the cross.

Good Friday – April 18 ✝️ 7:00 PM – Stations of the Cross (Church) Walk with us through the 14 stations, reflecting on the Passion of Christ with scripture readings and prayers at each station. This solemn observance honors the day of our Lord's crucifixion.

Easter Sunday – April 20 🌅 10:00 AM – Solemn Festival Eucharist, Rite II Celebrate the Resurrection with a joyous service featuring incense, a sung psalm, and beloved Easter hymns. The Paschal Candle will shine brightly, symbolizing Christ's risen presence among us.

👧 Children’s Corner (Church House) A fully staffed space for our youngest members. During the Passing of the Peace, children will join the congregation, processing with a new handcrafted Children's Cross, symbolizing new life and faith.

Let us come together to experience the transforming power of the Gospel, as we remember, reflect, and rejoice in the Holy Love that leads us from the cross to the resurrection.

🍞 They Gave What They Had, and No One Went Hungry 🍞

Beginning with our Lancaster Convocation Ash Wednesday service, we set our hearts on a shared goal: to support the largest Episcopal feeding ministry in our convocation—St. John’s Food Pantry in Lancaster. What began as a single offering that evening became a movement of shared generosity and holy love.

Thanks to a matching gift from Hope Episcopal Church, we combined the generous resources of St. Thomas with St. John’s and our congregations pooled their gifts throughout the holy season of Lent.

TOGETHER, the offering totaled $827—a faithful sign of how much more we can do when we walk together in the Spirit.

This is more than a number. This is the transforming power of the gospel of Jesus Christ made visible.

Jesus didn’t just teach from the mountaintop—he sat down on the grass and fed thousands. “You give them something to eat,” he said (Luke 9:13), calling us to action. His ministry has always included feeding the hungry, welcoming the stranger, and offering bread as both nourishment and sign of grace.

The early Church heard that call and responded in kind:
“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers... All who believed were together and had all things in common.” (Acts 2:42–44)

In that same spirit, St. John’s Food Pantry served over 9,000 people last year. Already in 2025, they’ve served 1,879 individuals, offering food, dignity, and care to neighbors in need.

Their work continues with a nearly $30,000 annual budget—a testimony to how deeply needed this ministry is and how powerfully it reveals the love of God.

🕊️ This is Holy Love. This is the Gospel at work. This is hope with hands and feet.

🙏 Want to support this sacred ministry? Every gift helps. Every meal matters. Every act of love multiplies.

💰 Give directly to St. John’s Food Pantry:
🔗 St. John’s Online Giving https://tithe.ly/give_new/www/ #/tithely/give-one-time/1282394?widget=1

Let’s keep feeding the hungry. Let’s keep proclaiming the gospel. Let’s keep showing the world what Holy Love really looks like.
