He was born and reared in Charlotte, NC and attended the public school system there. From high school he attended the World Christian Bible School under the late Dr. E V Hill. He started preaching the last Sunday in March of 1978 while attending the Pleasant Grove A.M.E Zion Church in Derita, NC. Through his gift of song, Apostle Spears formed a family group, The Original Carolina Gospel Singers,
and had the opportunity to appear with acts such as Richard Smallwood, Daryl Coley, Shirley Caesar, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, The Williams Brothers, Milton Bronson and The Tommies, and Kirk Franklin. In 1996, the Lord opened the door for him to travel overseas where he toured with The Harlem Gospel Singers under the B.B Promotion Company. He has traveled to Germany, England, Belgium, Switzerland, and various other countries. In the year 2000, Apostle Spears became pastor of Beaver Creek Baptist Church and remained there 4 years until the Lord lifted him up out of that ministry and blessed to start his own. In 2004 Shekinah Word Center was established and the Lord has tremendously blessed it and caused other churches to be united in body with him. Apostle Spears was consecrated and ordained to the Apostolic Ministry on May 25, 2008 by Bishop David E. Alston, who is the Overseer and Director of Strengthening The Body Fellowship of Churches, Inc.
