Ever wonder why there are so many different churches with fundamental differences in doctrine, faith, and practice? What is at stake when we "agree to disagree"? This hits pretty hard for anyone able to hear it, talking about Division...

Always Be Ready

“I returned and saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to men of understanding, nor favor to men of skill; but time and chance happen to them all. For man also does not know his time: like fish taken in a cruel net, like birds caught in a snare, so the sons of men are snared in an evil time, when it falls suddenly upon them.” (Ecclesiastes 9:11,12)

This past Wednesday afternoon, around 12 in the afternoon, my son and I were at the city recreation center playing soccer and pickleball (he was winning everything, as usual). Afterward, we went across the street to Sonic for treats. While we were at the outdoor playground, there was suddenly a loud frenzy of police cars and ambulances flying by. I later found out that there had been a terrible car accident on the I-20, during which multiple individuals lost their lives.

I wonder at the fact that, while were playing at the Rec at 12 noon, there were individuals traveling down I-20 who could never have imagined they would never reach their destinations, that all of their life’s plans, relationships, expectations, would soon come to an end.

We do not know what the next day or moment will bring (Matthew 6:34). There is one thing of which we can be certain in a world of time and chance: nothing is certain but that we shall all, sooner or later, be judged (II Corinthians 5:10). - jk

"Now godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows."
(1Timothy 6:6-10)

Pleasant Run Church of Christ

The Pleasant Run church of Christ believes “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” (II Timothy 3:16,17). We diligently search that inspired word of truth, and strive to apply it in our individual lives and the work of our local church.
