We’re so grateful for Lancaster Lebanon Habitat for Humanity and the meaningful work they do to build homes and hope in our communities. As Pastor Matt said, a house is something we create for one another, and that kind of care reflects the very heart of Highland’s mission to see, know, and love others!

Almost exactly 40 years ago, on May 1, 1986, the first board meeting of what was then known as the Lancaster Area Habitat for Humanity took place. The meeting was moderated by Highland Presbyterian’s Rev. Dr. Jim Hanna; also in attendance were the founders of our Habitat affiliate including Highland Presbyterian members Mike Mumma, Dick Peacock, Jack Toews and others.

Last Sunday was a bit of a homecoming as Highland Presbyterian Church invited Habitat to their house of worship for their special Highland in Action service, which focused on the importance of stable and affordable housing.

“A house is not just a structure, it’s something we create for each other,” said Rev. Matt Drumheller. “Caring for those who are housing insecure is an opportunity to encounter Christ.”

You can listen to Rev. Drumheller’s sermon “A Place to Belong” at the 22:22 mark of this video: https://www.youtube.com/live/kGinM70DxNI?si=DpdmFqNm8DzHxAiE

What a beautiful Bible Sunday at Highland this morning! We gave out bibles to our children and youth, reminisced about the special bibles given to us, and shared our favorite verses with one another. Our Ignite band joined us in worship and our chancel choir sang the classic Amy Grant song “Thy Word.” Pastor Allison wrapped three bibles in different wrapping paper to illustrate that the Bible is a gift given to the church, the story about God and God’s people, and a treasure to be cherished by all. There’s a lot going on in the world right now. If you want to be in a place of goodness and light, please join us at Highland. We’re sowing seeds of hope and kindness and doing our best to live in the ways of Jesus.

We were honored to be part of Highland Presbyterian’s service highlighting their dedication to the Lancaster community. The sermon, “Highland in Action,” lifted up the meaningful work happening alongside three partner organizations: Arch Street Center, Food Hub, and First Reformed Church.

After the service, we had the chance to spend time talking with members of the congregation - sharing stories, answering questions, and feeling all the good community vibes.

Huge thanks to Highland Presbyterian for your continued support of Arch Street Center and for showing up, again and again, for Lancaster. ❤️

Join us on Wednesday, December 24 for one of our Christmas Eve services. This is a time to pause amid the busyness of the season and come together in worship, reflection, and celebration. All are welcome as we gather to honor the hope and joy of Christmas in a meaningful and uplifting way!

⭐ 4:30 PM – A Family Christmas Pageant ⭐
Families are invited to a joyful, interactive Christmas Eve service where every child can be part of the story! Children may choose a provided costume (or bring their own) — angels, stars, shepherds, or animals — as we retell the Christmas Story through a simple, no-rehearsal pageant woven with carols, a creative biblical retelling, and a candlelit Silent Night in the Sanctuary (traditional candles for adults and battery-operated candles for children will be provided). This low-stress pageant allows kids to express their joy and feel seen, known, and loved as they choose their character and join in the unfolding of the Christmas story.

⭐ 8:00 PM – Traditional Candlelight Service ⭐
Our Traditional Candlelight Christmas Eve Service in the Sanctuary will be a beautiful and reverent celebration of Christ’s birth. This service features Scripture, carols, choir, and a thoughtful message as we enter the wonder of the Nativity story together. We will conclude with the beloved tradition of candlelight and “Silent Night,” filling the Sanctuary with warmth and hope as we welcome the Christ Child once again.
