In John 11, Jesus is preparing to return to Judea to resurrect Lazarus. His disciples are concerned, because the last time He was there, the crowds were on the verge of stoning him. When it's clear that Jesus isn't changing his mind, Thomas says, "Let us also go, that we may die with him." John 11:15b.

Jesus might not ask you to die for Him. But He'll ask you to do things that require you to die to yourself. Maybe He wants you to talk to the homeless person you pass every day on your way to work. Or share the Gospel with a coworker. Sometimes God asks us to do something uncomfortable. Even frightening. Thomas didn't let fear hold him back. And neither should you.

After Jesus fed the 5,000, the crowd followed him to the other side of the Sea of Galilee. Jesus tells the crowd that they only followed him because of the loaves. God's provision is a wonderful blessing. But if that's the only thing we ever go to Him for, we can miss the bigger picture of who He is, just like the crowd did in John 6. Ask yourself- do you try to make God the center of your life and spend time in His word, or do you only go to Him when you need something?

There is no such thing as a perfect Christian. Romans 3:23 says, "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." The good news is that God doesn't expect perfection. Take the Apostle Peter. He promised Jesus he would never deny Him- and then he did exactly that. But Jesus forgave and restored him. Peter became a leader in the early Church, and wrote two books of the Bible. His mistakes weren't the end of his story. And neither are yours.
