Because of the reports about the likelihood of severe winter weather this weekend, please remember that no one is required to sacrifice their safety and well-being to attend Sunday Mass. We should not lightly exempt ourselves from the obligation to attend Mass, but dangerous roads and icy conditions provide a good reason to stay at home. Live-streamed masses, reading the Scriptures of the day, prayer as a family can all be good ways to keep holy the Lord’s Day when it is not safe to go to Mass.

Peace and all good,

Bishop John Stowe, OFM Conv.

Happy feast day of St. Sylvester, all you good folk in Ottenheim! As we prepare to start a new year, I'll just quote the immortal words of Tiny Tim in "A Christmas Carol" -- "God bless us, every one!" -- and also St. Padre Pio's maxim -- "Pray, hope, and don't worry." :-)

Danville Kentucky is considered the state's birthplace, so you'll find plenty for history buffs to do here, as well as plenty of small town charm.

GABBF is coming up the first weekend of June. I saw this on FB and look who is sitting there at the table in the big picture -- Cathy and I, and our close friends David and Alden Harover! Come join us this year! You can find the schedule for the bands and other details at www.gabbf .org.

Our street party, Whitaker Bank’s Bayou and Brass takes place Friday June 2nd this year at Weisiger Park in downtown Danville. Food trucks and closed streets means room and fuel for dancing!
Join us at 5:30 for the Circle City Sidewalk Stompers, New Breed Brass Band, The Cincy Brass and The Soul Rebels for funk, soul, jazz, and groovy sounds of the bayou!

This is one reason why Catholic clergy and Religious are required to go on at least one retreat per year so we can better serve God's people; it is hard to hear God's voice in real depth and detail when you are constantly distracted by all the cares and business of daily life (e.g., 1 Kings 19). As the ancient maxim of the Church warns us, "Nemo dat quod non habet" ("You can't give what you don't have").

“Each person deserves a day away in which no problems are confronted, no solutions searched for. Each of us needs to withdraw from the cares which will not withdraw from us.”
