We celebrate on August 19 the creation of the original flag, we celebrate Transgender Flag Day. Created in August of 1999 by Monica Helms, a transgender activist from Phoenix, Arizona, the transgender flag is important to many. After being created in 1999 it was first flown at Phoenix Pride in 2000. In 2014 the Smithsonian Museum of American History accepted the original flag into its collection.

The flag was created with intention. The blue and pink are representative of traditional masculine and feminine gender identities, and the white is representative of those who don’t belong to the traditional gender identities.

What does it mean to live wholeheartedly?
Micah gives us three questions:
Are you doing justice?
Are you loving kindness?
Are you walking humbly?
And Jesus reminds us that healing is never only about feeling better. Healing changes how we move through the world.
Healing makes us less defensive.
We become humble enough to say, “I was wrong,” “I need help,” “I need to listen,” and “I have more to learn.”
Healing makes us more compassionate.
Our healing becomes connected to the healing of our communities. Your flourishing matters to mine.
Healing makes us more courageous.
Love moves from private feeling into public action. We learn to resist injustice, share power, welcome others, and make more room for life.
Our closing ritual, “Lighting the World,” reminded us that one flame does not become smaller when it lights another. The light multiplies.
So perhaps the question isn’t simply, “Am I healed yet?”
Perhaps it is:
Is my healing making me more capable of love?
More capable of listening?
Forgiving?
Telling the truth?
Sharing power?
Welcoming?
Resisting injustice?
The light was never meant to stop with us.
We receive it.
We tend it.
We share it.
We become it.
And together, we light the world.

Resurrection Identity
John 20:11–18 | 2 Corinthians 5:17

Prayer

God of gardens and graveyards,
God of endings that somehow become beginnings,
meet us here.

Speak our names the way only Love can.
Loosen our grip on the stories that keep us small.
Give us courage to believe that resurrection is not just something that happened to Jesus,
but something is still happening in us.

Amen.

Resurrection Begins When We Stop Mistaking Our Wounds for Our Identity
Mary thought she was looking for a co**se.

Instead, she encountered Christ.
Sometimes, we’re looking for the version of ourselves that died—the marriage that ended, the career that changed, the diagnosis that came, the child who left home, the years addiction took, the depression that settled in, the church hurt that changed us.
And somewhere along the way, we begin introducing ourselves by our losses.
“I’m divorced.”
“I’m anxious.”
“I’m the difficult one.”
“I’m the disappointment.”
“I’m the one who never quite figured it out.”
Those stories can become so familiar that we mistake them for our names.
Then Jesus says one word:

“Mary.”

That’s all.

Not a lecture.
Not a self-help plan.
Just her name.

Because resurrection begins when we remember who we are before shame introduced itself.

During our ritual time, we were invited to choose a word—beloved, free, brave, rooted, becoming—and use that word to write a new story about ourselves.
Not erasing what happened.
Not denying the wounds.
But refusing to let our wounds have the final word.
Maybe resurrection is not becoming who we were before.
Maybe it is discovering who we are becoming now.
You are more than what happened to you.

You are more than what you lost.
You are more than the names shame gave you.

Jesus still knows your name.
And resurrection begins there. And resurrection is available to us in every moment.

Today we wear black. 🖤

Not as a trend.
Not as a fashion statement.

But as a visible commitment to a world without r**e and violence.

Thursdays in Black is a global movement calling for an end to gender-based violence and standing in solidarity with survivors. We wear black to say: we see you, we believe you, and we will not stay silent.

Violence should never be normalized. Silence should never protect harm. Love should never hurt.

As people of faith, we believe in dignity. We believe in justice. We believe every body is sacred.

Today, we wear black as prayer.
We wear black as protest.
We wear black as promise. 🖤

Join us for Week 9: Resurrection and New Identity, in our series called The Inner Wilderness- Transformation in the way of Jesus. Where we weave in shadow work with Jesus’ message.

We don’t need to return to who we were. We can grow and transform into who we are becoming, while still carrying our past self with us.

Scripture: John 20:11-18

Together we’ll explore how growing into your transformation is a blessing even if it doesn’t look like it.

Wherever you are on your journey, you are welcome here.

Join us as we make space for truth, compassion, and the courage to embrace authenticity.

🖤Thursdays in Black🖤

Today, we wear black as a symbol of resistance and solidarity - standing together for a world free from r**e, violence, and all forms of injustice.

As a church, we believe in the sacred worth of every person and the call to be peacemakers. We grieve with survivors, pray for healing, and work for a future where dignity and safety are the norm, not the exception.

Join us in breaking the silence.
Together, we can make a difference.

Week 8: Further Thoughts on Forgiveness 💛
This week we explored a truth that challenges and heals:
“Without forgiveness, there is no future.” — Desmond Tutu
We also recognized that forgiveness without truth isn’t healing—it’s denial. Real healing begins when we’re willing to face what has happened with honesty and courage.
Together we reflected on what it means to become more whole by embracing every part of ourselves instead of dividing ourselves into “good” and “bad.” As we integrate our stories, we become more compassionate, more grounded, and less reactive.
During our Threads of Repair ritual, each person tied knots into ribbon to represent wounds and broken places. Then we wove those strands together into a shared tapestry—a reminder that healing is not just personal; it is something we create in community.
We closed with these powerful words from James Baldwin:
“Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.”
May we continue to choose honesty, compassion, and the sacred work of repair—within ourselves, with one another, and in our world. 🌿✨

There is a place for you. There is a place for you as your most authentic self, whatever that may look like.

Join us for Week 8: Death of the False Self, in our series called The Inner Wilderness- Transformation in the way of Jesus. Where we weave in shadow work with Jesus’ message.

Too often we become performative versions of ourself. We try and change ourselves to make others comfortable, even if it means losing your authenticity in the process. His life reminds us that authenticity to yourself is one of the strongest things a person can do.

Scripture: John 12:24

Together we’ll explore how being an unauthentic version of yourself can be harmful to yourself and your faith.

Wherever you are on your journey, you are welcome here.

Join us as we make space for truth, compassion, and the courage to embrace authenticity.
