Our church is people committed to following Jesus together into His life of faith, hope, and love with the Bible as our guide. It’s the greatest life available! As individuals and families we make giant steps forward in our following Jesus when we do it together as a church family.
And there is a bigger picture. As Texas Baptists (and as Southern Baptists) we are also churches committed to following Jesus together into his life of faith, hope, and love with the Bible as our guide. We can do more as sister churches in Lampasas County, in the state, or in the nation cooperating and pooling resources to fulfill Jesus’ Great Commission (Matthew 28:18–20).
Every September, FBC joins other churches like ours all over the state in a special Week of Prayer for Texas Missions and giving to the Mary Hill Davis state missions offering. This year it happens September 13–20. One great thing about the Week of Prayer is how it lifts our eyes up and out to the myriad ways God is moving in our great state for the beauty of His greater kingdom.
One example: Freddy Tyson was a mechanic in San Antonio. He also led a church that met in a friend’s home. The church began as a mission project supported by the Mary Hill Davis Offering.
The church held a worship service several years ago that included five baptisms. One of the new believers baptized was a quadriplegic man. His only means of communication was through responding to questions by moving his eyes—up and down for yes, side to side for no. When asked if he had believed the Gospel and trusted Christ as his Lord, the man’s eyes truly were the windows to his soul—Yes!
If that man can share faith in Jesus just by moving his eyes, how much more can you and I do? One of our old hymns prays “Open my eyes that I may see” the truth of Jesus and the needs of my neighbors, and “open my mouth” that I may tell others about His faith, hope, and love. Yes!
