Luke 12:15, "And He said to them, 'Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.'”
Jesus' words should mean more to us today than when He first spoke them. It is not wrong to own things in this world, but remember that even if you have an abundance or not, your life does not consist of your possessions. Paul warned the evangelist Timothy concerning the love of money, 1 Timothy 6:10, "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows."
Please understand Paul is not saying that money is the root of all kinds of evil, but the love of it. How sad that many people in this world will lose their souls over the love of money and in some cases never achieve the goal of storing up huge bank accounts and never reaching their goal. Going to Hell over the thing you loved best yet never achieved obtaining a large amount of it.
We need to consider the rich man who thought he was secure because he had much goods laid up for many years. Luke 12:16-21, "And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry." “But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?’" “So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.”
God has richly blessed us all with many good things, but marriage, families, and friends are worth more than all the gold in this world.
Many cherish their health above all things, and it is true that if you are ill, or suffer with a terminal illness such as cancer you may think different things about God, but you need to put your priorities in order so you can see what is worth the most in your life. Life is a gift from God, but it is also with responsibilities just as wealth is a gift from God, but it only comes with more responsibility to do what is right in His sight.
