Adventure kiddos have all finished their Advent celebrations!
Ornaments are on their trees and we lit our last candle for K-5th on Sunday. We hope to see all of our families for Christmas Eve services! We will light the final candle to celebrate Jesús being the Light of the World.
There are little baggies for our preschool-kinder kids who will be present. They can work on the activity bulletin in service or take the baggies home.

Wednesday night is our Christmas Program!!

We have some great kids and youth performing.
Please bring your kiddos with some green or red Christmas colors for the night, so we can have kids matching a bit for the song.
If you've already gotten an outfit, no need to worry! It'll look great with the many Christmas outfits/colors.

Advent means "coming" or "arrival".
Advent is a celebration that many Christians have practiced in the past and that a majority continue to celebrate through the years.
Our hearts prepare for two things. 1: The coming of Jesus clothed in humanity, fulfilling the promises of the Old Testament. 2: The second coming of Christ, when He makes all things new and fully brings His eternal Kingdom down.
We ponder the "here but not yet" as we celebrate God's faithfulness through the Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love found in Him.

Every Sunday in big church, families recite a passage and light the candles, so I wanted kids to have their own Advent practice in their classrooms- and maybe you do something at home too! This way, kids will understand what we celebrate and reiterate what you talk about at home about the meaning of Christmas.

Here's what we'll be diving into in November! This is for preschoolers all the way to 5th graders.
How can you keep the discipleship go on at home?
Simple ways to do so:
Find a time during the day to sit and read the story together and then pray together. Morning, afternoon, bedtime- a time to keep it fresh in their minds.
Kids go home with a sheet or story cards that give some questions you could ask your kiddos. That's a way to prompt some discussion at the table eating or on a car ride!

The song Oakton Carthage and Oakton Lamar kids will be singing together is Angels We Have Heard on High/Angeles Cantando Estan.
Spanish: 1st and 3rd verse
English: 2nd and 4th verse
Here are videos that will help kiddos get the songs down.
English (lyrics, piano accompaniment): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bFjNzOj64-A
Here is the video with the spanish lyrics!

If any kids want to try their hand at singing in the other language- they are totally welcome to! It's a lot easier to sing in another language, so it's worth a try.

There is some solid learning going on for Sundays and Wednesdays. Adults- the take home resources will help these conversations continue and stick!
On Sundays I've had questions from kids about the Trinity. While I answer some questions, I knew our Wednesday lesson was coming up and we'd be able to focus more on the topic! God is 3-in-1.

God the Father, God the Son, God the Spirit are 3 persons in 1 God.
What did we discuss? There is nothing and no one exactly like God! Over time people have tried to make sense of the Trinity, how Deuteronomy 6:4 and Matthew 3:16-17 make sense, by using examples of this world.
The Trinity is like water- comes in different forms (but God is not different forms).
The Trinity is like an apple- has different parts (but God is not different parts).
Is it confusing? Is it hard to understand? Yes, because nothing and no one in this world is exactly like God! These analogies are helpful to catch a small glimpse of the Trinity, but they are not how God is, and nothing will come close enough because it is beyond our scope.
We have the truth: Truth is what is real.
Where do we find truth? God is the source of truth.
Who is God? God is 3-in-1.
Next Wednesday: God is spirit. Is he pretend since we can't see him or is he real?

What did your kids go home with this Sunday??
All areas: Another lesson in Genesis (Chapters 2-3, sin enters the world).
Kingdom Cubs: A Picture Card with a summary of the story, verse, and questions you can ask.
K-5th: a booklet with lots of neat things for your family and for kids to work on every week!

Christ connection from Sunday: Adam and eve sinned when they rejected God's good plan and disobeyed His command to follow what they thought was good. Sin separates people from God, but God did not leave them without hope. God created humanity with a purpose and in His image (Genesis 1-2, creation story). God sent His Son, Jesus, to live the life that Adam could not live- perfectly sinless and in full obedience to God, even to death on a cross. God the Son came to earth as a man to rescue people from sin.

Trying to think of creative and simple ways for you and your kids to stay on track for discipleship at home. Here is the booklet your kids will be going home with tomorrow!

This covers the lessons for the next 2 months! We will encourage them to bring them back to church every Sunday with their Bibles, and then take them home to work on them. They’ll get a few tickets every time it’s brought back for the prize store!

Also: Don’t forget to ask your kiddos what truths and feelings they’ve heard at school, with friends, sports, or in family. Wednesday nights have been great so far with this new series!
