Jesus also shows us what surrender actually looks like.

Before Jesus would give his life on the cross Luke documents Jesus’ time of prayer in the garden of Gethsemane Luke 22:42 Jesus says, “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.”

Notice what Jesus does not do. He doesn’t pretend that everything is fine. He doesn’t suppress what he wants, and he doesn’t deny his anguish. Instead, Jesus is completely honest with the Father: “This is what I want. If there is any other way for this to happen, please let it be so.”

But even in the midst of his pain and uncertainty, Jesus chooses to trust in the Father’s love. That’s why he ultimately says, “Not my will, but yours be done.”

Surrender to God is one of the most challenging aspects of the Christian life, not because it is complicated, but because it requires trust.

Beneath our resistance to letting go is often a deeper fear: that God will not come through the way we need Him to. But Scripture reveals a God whose very nature is love, a love that pursued us before we ever turned toward Him.

We believe life was never meant to be lived alone. Meaningful, authentic relationships are something we all need—and something many of us are actively looking for. Cityline Groups create space to begin building those relationships with people in your city, your neighborhood, your workplace, and your church community.

Groups are designed around three simple ways to connect:

🤝LIVE Groups — Build community and do life together through shared interests, experiences, and meaningful relationships.

✨LEARN Groups — Grow together by exploring God’s Word, developing your faith, and learning alongside others.

🫶LOVE Groups — Put your faith into action by serving others and making a difference together.

Community Groups are launching next month, and we invite you to consider hosting a group! If you have a growing faith, a heart for helping others, and a desire to connect people with Jesus and each other, you might already be equipped to lead.

You don’t need to be a Bible expert or have all the answers to host a community group. Hosting simply means saying “yes” and creating a welcoming space for people to gather, build authentic relationships, grow in their faith, and support one another.

You choose the time and location that works best for you, and we will provide training, resources, and ongoing coaching to ensure you feel supported in leading well.

At Cityline, we believe everyone has a next step—and as a Community Group Host, you have the opportunity to help others take theirs.

If you’re interested in leading a community group this year, or a returning host, please register at the link in our bio and join us on Sunday, August 30 at 1:30pm for a mandatory Group Host Training Meeting where you'll get to learn more about how you can get ready for this Fall’s community group launch 🙌
