Lakewood Lutheran Church & School

Lakewood Lutheran Church & School Lakewood Lutheran Church was est. in 1946, and the School was opened 20 years later in 1966. Come see what makes us unique! This is the gospel, the "good news."

We preach and teach that God extends an invitation and call to receive His forgiveness, cleansing, and life that lasts from this time to eternity. This invitation or call is extended to all people, regardless of their history, background, social status, political affiliation, etc. Members of our church as well as guests and visitors are considered to be sinners who are naturally separated from God, but unconditionally forgiven by God Himself through the atonement He has provided in the blood of His Son, Jesus Christ. We all receive this not by meeting any conditions or requirements, but by God's grace, through faith in the message we preach and teach. Our use of this message as the central activity of our church is what makes us "evangelical." We worship in the tradition that Christians have used over the last 2,000 years. Our particular worship tradition is the western Christian rite that was reformed and purified in the 16th-Century Reformation connected with Dr. Martin Luther. The strength of this approach is that it helps to reliably deliver the gospel that we need so much, and keeps us focused on it. Those who would like to participate fully in our services (including the Lord's Supper, Holy Communion) are invited to take a class in Christian faith and life with our pastor. Membership at our church consists of receiving the ordinary pastoral care of God's word and sacraments through regular church attendance when possible, and extraordinary care when needed. To be a member is to have a pastor who is instructed by God and assigned to care for you, as well as a church community meant to support you in your life of faith. If you have recently been a communicant at a church that teaches and confesses as we do, you may ask our pastor to see whether the full instruction class would be needed before you fully participate in our services.

Some churches teach that if a person follows God, God responds by granting prosperity and peace, as would only be expected. This Sunday, we'll see how that is nonsense. The Bible explains that if we are part of the Church of God, we will have to bear crosses.

We carry our crosses because we know that in those moments of struggle, we are forced to turn to Christ and rely on his strength.

Join us for worship as we explore an unexpected path, the one Jesus himself walked: the cross comes before the crown.

Wherever faith clings to the promises of God, doubt is always lingering. People doubt God’s care, God’s promises, or God’s providence.
The answer to doubt is not found in loud, dramatic demonstrations. The true answer to doubt is found in the still small voice of our Savior God whispering to us in his Word. Through Word and sacrament, Christ reaches out to us with nail-scarred hands, proof of his great love. Our faith is restored.
Join us for worship this Sunday as we learn how Christians answer doubt with faith.
