Our Bible story this week is Timothy Shares the Good News from 2 Timothy 1:1-14.

In today’s Bible story Paul writes a letter to his friend Timothy, encouraging him to keep sharing the good news of Jesus with others. Timothy is young, but he has a strong faith, passed down to him by his mother and grandmother. Paul reminds him to be brave and not let fear stop him from sharing God’s love with the world.

Paul tells Timothy that God has given him a spirit of power, love, and self-discipline and that the good news is something to be proud of, even if it’s difficult sometimes. Paul also encourages Timothy to hold on to the teachings he’s learned and to pass them on to others. The good news is all about spreading God’s kindness and love in the world!

Our Bible story this month is The Holy Spirit Brings Good News from Acts 2:1-41.

Pentecost, celebrated by Christians as the “birthday of the church,” is the Greek name for a Jewish festival called the Feast of Weeks. Jesus had told his disciples to stay in Jerusalem and wait for the Holy Spirit. During the festival, the Spirit arrived with a sound like a violent wind and appeared as fi re. As the crowd gathered, some joked that the disciples were drunk because the power of the Spirit had overwhelmed them. Peter responded by preaching to the crowd. It must have been an amazing sermon, because about three thousand people were baptized that day. Today, the Spirit continues to empower believers like us to spread the good news of Jesus.

Our Bible story this week is The Good News Is for Everyone from Acts 10:1-48.

Cornelius was a good man who loved God. He prayed and helped others, but he wasn’t Jewish. One day, Cornelius had a vision in which an angel told him to send for a man named Peter. The next day, Peter was praying and had a vision too. Peter saw a big sheet come down from heaven, filled with all kinds of animals. A voice told him to get up and eat. Peter was confused because the animals on the sheet were not what Jewish people were allowed to eat. But God assured Peter it was OK.

While Peter was still thinking about the vision, Cornelius’s messengers arrived at his door. Peter went with them to Cornelius. When they arrived at Cornelius’s house, Peter realized the vision was about sharing the good news of Jesus. The good news wasn’t just for Jewish people, but was for everyone—no matter who they were or where they came from. Peter was amazed! And our good news is that everyone is invited to be part of God’s family.

Our Bible story this month is The Good News Helps the Church Grow from Acts 9:26-31.

The apostle Paul had a history of opposing Jesus and his followers. On the road to Damascus, he was on his way to arrest disciples of Jesus when he had a life-changing encounter with Jesus. After Paul’s conversion, he tried to join the disciples in Jerusalem. But they were understandably skeptical. They remembered his past as a persecutor and didn’t trust him. But Barnabas, who had heard Paul preach about Jesus, spoke up for Paul. He had witnessed Paul’s transformation and believed he had changed. Thanks to Barnabas, the disciples gave Paul a chance, and together they spread the
good news.

Barnabas shows us how powerful it can be to speak up for someone, especially when others are unsure. As we spread the good news of Jesus, let’s remember that being a good friend means helping others find their place, even when it’s hard. Change can be good news, if it means finding ways to accept one another to help our community grow.

Our Bible story this week is An Ethiopian Man Hears the Good News from Acts 8:26-40.

The Ethiopian man, an important official, was seen as an outsider for two reasons: he was a eu**ch, which excluded him from religious gatherings, and he lived far from Jerusalem, making it hard to connect with God’s people. Still, he was searching for God. One of Jesus’ disciples, Philip, was led by the Spirit to meet the Ethiopian man on his journey home from Jerusalem. Philip shared the good news of Jesus with the man. The good news was that Jesus welcomed everyone, including those pushed aside by society. The Ethiopian man was so moved that he asked to be baptized.

Philip followed the Spirit, and in doing so, he had the chance to share good news. We are invited to share good news with everyone, no matter where they come from. This story shows how amazing things happen when we see Jesus in everyone.

Our Bible story this week is The Great Commission from Matthew 28:16-20.

A commission can be a command to act in a certain way or the authority to act on behalf of another person. Here both meanings are appropriate. Jesus knows he will no longer be with the disciples, so he grants them the authority to continue his work. Jesus tells them to “go and make disciples of all nations.” Although Jesus’ ministry has been localized in a relatively small geographic area, his commission to the disciples is to spread the word.

Like the disciples, we are also charged with spreading the word. But Jesus does not issue the Great Commission to the disciples and to us and then leave us on our own. Jesus left the disciples with a promise to be with us every day. When we are not sure whether we can continue to do God’s work, remember Jesus is with us, helping us and showing us the way.

Our Bible story this week is Breakfast on the Beach from John 21:1-19.

In this story, Jesus appears to the disciples again. They have been fishing all night and have caught nothing. In the morning, they see someone on the shore. It is Jesus. But they don’t recognize him right away. Jesus tells them to throw their net on the other side of the boat, and when they do, they catch 153 fi sh! When the disciples realize it is Jesus, Peter is so excited he jumps into the water to swim to the shore. When the other disciples finally make it to shore, Jesus has prepared breakfast for them—fi sh and bread.

This meal might remind us of the story of the feeding of the five thousand and of the last meal the disciples shared with Jesus before he died. It seems that even after the Crucifixion and Resurrection, Jesus continued to care for and provide for his followers, because sharing Jesus’ love and ministry never ends.
