We’re excited to see the Lakeville Area Chamber of Commerce helping spread the word about these incredible scholarship opportunities!

The VFW Voice of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen programs give local students an opportunity to share what patriotism and our country mean to them, while competing for thousands of dollars in scholarships and awards!

High School Students: National scholarship opportunities up to $35,000

Middle School Students: National award opportunities up to $5,000

Parents, grandparents, teachers, coaches, and friends, please share this with a student who might be interested! You never know whose future you could help impact. ❤️🤍💙

🌟 2026–2027 VFW Patriot’s Pen Essay Contest

Calling all 6th, 7th & 8th grade students! 🇺🇸

The VFW Patriot’s Pen Essay Contest is a great opportunity for students to share their voice, strengthen their writing skills, reflect on what patriotism and service mean to them, and earn recognition for their work.

This year’s theme is:

🇺🇸 “What A Veteran Taught Me About America”

Participating gives students the chance to:

⭐ Share what they’ve learned from the veterans in their lives and communities
⭐ Build confidence in expressing their own ideas
⭐ Strengthen writing and critical-thinking skills
⭐ Gain recognition at the Post, District, State and National levels
⭐ Compete for scholarships and awards…including a $5,000 national first-place award!

📝 Essays should be 300–400 words and must be the student’s own original work.

📅 Entry Deadline: October 31, 2026

Please help us spread the word! Share this with students, parents, grandparents, teachers and schools who may know a 6th, 7th or 8th grader who would like to participate.

Sometimes a student’s perspective can remind all of us what service, sacrifice and America mean. ❤️🤍💙

Today we’re celebrating America’s 250th anniversary and all the freedom, sacrifice, and patriotism that come with it. We’re so grateful for the veterans, service members, and military families who have helped protect our country and the freedoms we enjoy every day.

Wishing everyone a fun, safe, and happy Independence Day filled with family, friends, and lots of red, white, and blue! 🎆✨
