We are currently in some hot weather, with what looks like a possible
hurricane coming our way. Between seeing fall stuff already on the shelves
and it still being 100 degrees outside, the weather feels a little crazy right
now. But what do we do when life starts to feel that way? When everything
feels like it’s falling apart and we don’t know how to respond?
This week we are beginning a new series on lament to help answer those
questions. The Bible doesn’t tell us to pretend that everything is ok when it
isn’t. Instead it shows us how to bring our pain to God without walking away
from Him.
Join us this week as we look at Lamentations 3 and see what the Bible
teaches us about bringing our pain to God while still holding onto hope.

Estamos atravesando una temporada de mucho calor y parece que se acerca un posible huracán. Entre ver artículos de otoño ya en las tiendas y tener temperaturas que alcanzan los 38 °C (100 °F) en el exterior, el clima se siente un poco caótico en este momento. Pero, ¿qué hacemos cuando la vida empieza a sentirse así? ¿Cuando parece que todo se desmorona y no sabemos cómo reaccionar?
Esta semana comenzamos una nueva serie sobre el lamento para ayudar a responder a esas preguntas. La Biblia no nos pide que finjamos que todo está bien cuando no lo está; al contrario, nos enseña cómo llevar nuestro dolor ante Dios sin alejarnos de Él.

This week we come to the end of our study in Hebrews.
Hebrews has been a largely doctrinal book: why Jesus is better than the angels, better than Moses, better High Priest, better sacrifice, and the better sanctuary. We have seen why faith in Jesus is the best option, and several examples of people who lived by faith.
Last week, we talked about how to finish well.
The book of Hebrews concludes by giving us some practical, Biblical advice on loving one another, our relationships with one another, the role of leaders, being aware of false teachers, and our worship.

Esta semana llegamos al final de nuestro estudio de la Epístola a los Hebreos.
Hebreos ha sido un libro eminentemente doctrinal: explica por qué Jesús es superior a los ángeles y a Moisés, y por qué es un mejor Sumo Sacerdote, ofrece un mejor sacrificio y posee un mejor santuario. The topic for this week is “How to Run the Face to Finish Well” from Hebrews 12.
The great part about running this race is that we don’t have to compare ourselves to anyone else running the race. While we can learn from others, maybe get some help from others, at the end of the day we don’t have to compare ourselves to anyone. In fact, 2 Corinthians 10:12 tells us that if we start comparing ourselves with others that we are without understanding—not wise, or ignorant is how the NLT puts it.
The spiritual journey could be compared to a marathon race or a 5K, in that the goal isn’t to compare ourselves with others but to reflect on a personal best. Day by day, week by week, year by year growing in our spiritual walk.
Join us as we dive into Hebrews 12 on how we can run to finish well.

El tema de esta semana, basado en Hebreos 12, es «Cómo correr la carrera para terminar bien».
Lo maravilloso de correr esta carrera es que no tenemos que compararnos con nadie más que también la esté corriendo. Si bien podemos aprender de los demás —y tal vez recibir ayuda de ellos—, a fin de cuentas no es necesario compararnos con nadie. De hecho, 2 Corintios 10:12 nos dice que, si empezamos a compararnos con otros, carecemos de entendimiento; o, como lo expresa la versión NLT, actuamos sin sabiduría o con ignorancia.
El viaje espiritual puede compararse con un maratón o una carrera de 5 km, en el sentido de que la meta no es compararse con los demás, sino buscar superar nuestra propia marca personal; se trata de crecer en nuestro caminar espiritual día a día, semana a semana y año tras año.

We all like the stories about conquering, about accomplishing great things, healings, and about victories—that is the faith we often focus on.
And while Hebrews 11 certainly highlights those types of events, Hebrews 11 closes by highlighting a faith that is also willing to suffer and even die for the cause of Christ.
In Romans 8:18 we read: CEB I believe that the present suffering is nothing compared to the coming glory that is going to be revealed to us.
Do we indeed believe that? Are we willing to wait until eternity for our rewards?
This is the shortest section in Hebrews 11, but also probably the hardest: a willingness to suffer and even die for the cause of Christ, and look to eternity for the fulfillment of the promises.

A todos nos gustan las historias de conquista, de grandes logros, de sanidades y de victorias; esa es la fe en la que a menudo nos centramos.
Y aunque Hebreos 11 ciertamente destaca ese tipo de acontecimientos, el capítulo concluye resaltando una fe que también está dispuesta a sufrir e incluso a morir por la causa de Cristo.
En Romanos 8:18 leemos: «Creo que el sufrimiento actual no es nada comparado con la gloria venidera que se nos ha de revelar».
¿Realmente creemos eso? ¿Estamos dispuestos a esperar hasta la eternidad para recibir nuestras recompensas?
Esta es la sección más breve de Hebreos 11, pero probablemente también la más difícil: la disposición a sufrir e incluso a morir por la causa de Cristo, y a poner la mirada en la eternidad para el cumplimiento de las promesas.

This week we look at part 2 of the faith that makes it so that God is unashamed of us.
We start with Abraham again concerning his last test of faith and address the rest of the positive examples of faith in Hebrews 11.
Some of the highlights are surprising.
God is not impressed with what we can build or accomplish unless it is mixed with faith—i.e., not something we could have achieved on our own.
I also want to invite us as a church to a time of prayer for our church. As elders we will be meeting for an extended this Sunday afternoon to discuss ideas, direction, etc.

Esta semana abordamos la segunda parte sobre la fe que hace que Dios no se avergüence de nosotros.
Retomamos el caso de Abraham y su última prueba de fe, y analizamos los demás ejemplos positivos de fe que aparecen en Hebreos 11.
Algunos de los aspectos más destacados resultan sorprendentes.
A Dios no le impresiona lo que podamos construir o lograr a menos que vaya acompañado de fe; es decir, que no sea algo que hubiéramos podido conseguir por nuestras propias fuerzas.
También quiero invitarnos, como iglesia, a un tiempo de oración por nuestra congregación. Este domingo por la tarde, los ancianos nos reuniremos durante un tiempo prolongado para conversar sobre ideas, la dirección a seguir, etcétera.
