The Bishop is asking all clergy to commit to taking a 3-5 day retreat over the summer for spiritual formation and sermon planning to prepare for a 5-week fall Wesleyan Rooted sermon series. FREE resources are available at wesleyanrooted.org.

Through the generosity of The Ware grant providing $1,500, The United Methodist Foundation providing a matching $1,500, and The Conference Board of Pensions and Health Benefits providing another $7,000, for a total of $10,000, we will provide a grant of $50 toward the cost of taking an individual or group retreat this summer to the first 200 clergy who apply before July 31st, 2024. Churches are asked to match this grant amount with an additional $50.

A Prayer for the Beginning of the Appointment Year

God of grace and hope, as we begin this new appointment year,
We pray for the pastors preparing to lead in congregations.
Grant them ears to hear the movement of your Spirit around them.
Give them hearts ready to love a new community of people.
Give them wisdom to balance the stresses and opportunities throughout this season.
We pray for the churches welcoming a new leader.
Give them eyes to see the gifts in their pastor
Give them hearts on fire for the mission of Christ
Give them patience through the changes, adjustments, and bumps that come with every transition
We pray for every church and pastor across our Conference. As we begin this new year together, let us recommit ourselves to make disciples of Jesus Christ committed to justice, mercy, and the transformation of our world.
Amen.
