Unity of Lakeland

Unity of Lakeland Unity of Lakeland is an inclusive spiritual community. We understand those who consider themselves spiritual more than religious.

Our teachings are transformative and we offer a loving, safe and sacred place to connect with a deep sense of purpose.

This morning Rev Liz spoke about Oneness and Earth Day. She read this beautiful poem from Mary Oliver: " “I thought the earth remembered me,
she took me back so tenderly,
arranging her dark skirts, her pockets
full of lichens and seeds.
I slept as never before, a stone on the river bed,
nothing between me and the white fire of the stars
but my thoughts, and they floated light as moths
among the branches of the perfect trees.
All night I heard the small kingdoms
breathing around me, the insects,
and the birds who do their work in the darkness.
All night I rose and fell, as if in water,
grappling with a luminous doom. By morning
I had vanished at least a dozen times
into something better.”

Yesterday, Rev. Liz spoke about Judgement. She taught us a new word, "Viveka" which is Sanskrit for DISCERNMENT. It is unwavering discriminating discernment, or insight. Instead of judging a person or situation, we may find the Viveka/Discernment is a wiser, healthier option.

Blessed are the peacemakers.

Blessed are the peacemakers.

In this time of violence and chaos, we feel a deep call to return to peace; not as something distant or ideal, but as something we each choose every day.

Let us collectively focus our intentions, prayers, and energies toward peace. Let us pray for our world and community leaders that they are guided by wisdom, compassion, and a deep commitment to the well-being of all people.

Peace is not passive. It asks something of each of us. It calls us to be steady, to be brave, and to keep showing up with open hearts even when it feels like our efforts won’t make a difference.

We have a responsibility to be vessels of peace each day.
Peace in our hearts.
Peace in our homes.
Peace across communities and nations.

Unity calls on each of us individually, within our spiritual communities, and among our political leaders to be grounded and guided by actions that cultivate peace in our thoughts, words, and deeds.

May we be courageous in our peace. May we live it, speak it, and extend it one moment at a time.

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” — Matthew 5:9

Interesting history with Unity Village and space exploration!

As astronauts return from their journey around the moon tomorrow, we look back to 1971, when astronaut James Irwin visited Unity Village and met James Dillet Freeman.

Freeman, one of Unity's most beloved writers, has a unique place in history: two of his poems have traveled to the moon. In 1969, Buzz Aldrin carried "Prayer for Protection" during the first moon landing on Apollo 11. Two years later, James Irwin brought "I Am There" aboard Apollo 15—and left a microfilm copy on the lunar surface, where it remains today.
