Whereas, the Diocesan Bishop is entrusted with the pastoral care, governance, and administration of the particular Church according to the norm of law; and after consultation, discernment, and consideration of the pastoral needs of the Diocese of Palm Beach and the spiritual welfare of the faithful, the following assignments are made.

I am pleased to announce that I have appointed Very Rev. Antony Pulikal to serve as the Chancellor and Moderator of the Curia, as well as Episcopal Vicar for Strategic Planning, for the Diocese of Palm Beach, effective immediately. For the time being, Father Pulikal will remain also as Pastor of St. Sebastian Catholic Church.

I wish to express my sincere gratitude to Father Albert DelloRusso, former Chancellor, for the years of service he has generously offered to the Diocese and to the various institutions he has assisted throughout his tenure.

Father Dello Russo has been assigned to serve as Pastor of St. Paul of the Cross Parish in North Palm Beach, effective July 1, 2026. We remain grateful for his dedication, commitment, and priestly ministry among us.

The Church does not claim to assume the functions belonging to the State. On the contrary, she esteems those who serve the common good, and she firmly acknowledges the responsibility that civil institutions hold within society. At the same time, the mission entrusted to the Church prompts her to address the real suffering of the men and women of our time. This closeness does not stem from an intent to supplant civil institutions, much less from an implicit criticism of their work. Rather, it stems from evangelical charity, which impels the Church to draw near to the wounds of humanity whenever they surface with greater severity. When the Church intervenes, she does so following the example of the Good Samaritan, with discretion and closeness, aware that what arises from urgent necessity cannot become the norm, nor replace the institutional responsibilities proper to the civil community.

I address this heartfelt appeal to all the Catholic faithful, to all Christians and to all men and women of goodwill. Let us not be afraid to get our hands dirty on the “construction site” of our time. Like Nehemiah, let us pray, plan wisely and work perseveringly, placing God at the forefront of our actions and the human person at the center of our choices… the task that stands before us is that of being builders of communion, rather than architects of Babel. We are to be servants of the coming Kingdom, instead of lords of towers destined for ruin. With the heart of a shepherd and a father, I ask everyone to abandon the construction of yet another Tower of Babel and to join forces in building up the common good, so that humanity will never lose its beauty, and the world once again will come to recognize the human heart as the place where God desires to dwell.

Happy Memorial Day!

P e n t e c o s t S u n d a y

Before Jesus’s final giving of himself on the cross, He promised to give His disciples another Paraclete as we read in St. John’s Gospel. Paraclete means a counselor, intercessor, an advocate. And Jesus specifically said “Another Paraclete.” This means He is still among us as our First Advocate. So, what will be the function of the Spirit? He will teach; he will bring to your remembrance; and will bear witness. Whenever, we celebrate Pentecost, it reminds us of that first dramatic outpouring of the Spirit to His Church. But more so, it reminds us that we need to continually open our hearts to the Spirit.

Today’s feast is a call to action. In today’s first reading after Peter’s preaching, the people asked: Brothers, what shall we do? We need to continually say Yes to the promptings of the Spirit. You need to fan into flame the gifts of the Spirit also given to you at Baptism and Confirmation. You need to allow the Spirit to teach you, remind you and inspire your witnessing. The Spirit will not force its way into you. You have to be disposed so that God’s Spirit can work in you.

As we celebrate the Birthday of the Church, we pray that in our own time and space that there be a New Pentecost, that the same Spirit work with us and within us to teach, remind and inspire authentic witnessing among us:

Come, O Holy Spirit,
fill the hearts of your faithful!
In our labor, rest most sweet;
Grateful coolness in the heat;
Solace in the midst of woe.
Heal our wounds, our strength renew;
On our dryness pour your dew;
Wash the stains of guilt away:
Bend the stubborn heart and will;
Melt the frozen, warm the chill;
Guide the steps that go astray. Amen.
