on of mainly Finnish heritage. We offer two services each Sunday, one in Finnish and the other in English. We invite you to visit us regardless of denomination. Everyone is welcome! Here is a little bit of history about St. Andrew's:
In the late forties and early fifties an increasing number of Finnish-Americans came to Florida for lengthy winter vacations or moved to enjoy their retirement. Many who settled in the Lake Worth-Lantana area still had strong ties to Finland. Through the years, St. Andrew's would serve as a church for both residents and many tourists from Finland. In 1953 the first congregation of St. Andrew's organized and joined the Suomi Synod. In 1960 the "official language" of the church was changed to English, since not all members spoke Finnish. By 1960 as the church grew, St. Andrew's began to collaborate with other Lutheran churches to create a Synod. In 1965 the completed new church and Sunday School rooms of a spacious courtyard were dedicated. By 1988 our synod's churches became members of the new Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (E.L.C.A.). Our pastor's have included Pastor Yrjo F. Joki, Pastor K.V. Mykkanen, Pastor Frank A. Pelkonen, Pastor Herman Matero, Pastor Douglas Ollila, Pastor Oliver Hallberg, Pastor Wilbert Tormala, Associate Pastor Jack Saarela, Pastor Pentti Maki, Pastor's in Residence: Pastor Seppo Paananen, Reverend Timo Saarelma, Reverend Aslak Kettunen and Reverend Pekka Aukia. Intern Pastor: Paivi Kilpinen, Bishop Paavo Kortekangas, Pastor Vesa Tuominen, Pastor Mauri Vihko, Pastor Timo Hukka, Pastor Seppo Hartikainen and Pastor Mia Hagman. Our music directors have included Merja Hulkkonen (Poutiainen), Heikki Perttu and Michael Poutianen. The past two decades have been quieter for this church, but we continue to preach the Word to longtime and newer members. We currently have one Minister, SAM Sami Ettanen ( Syndically Authorized Minister) and are looking for a Cantor/Music Director.
