Day 1: The Goal šŸŽÆ

S - Scripture: "Don’t you know that the runners in a stadium all race, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way to win the prize." - 1 Corinthians 9:24 (CSB) šŸ“–

O - Observation: The prize isn't just about winning a race; it's about the ultimate reward. For us, the prize is the tangible presence of Jesus himself. The running isn't the point, it's the preparation for this ultimate encounter.

A - Application: Think about a relationship with someone special. The effort you put in—getting ready, planning—is preparation to be with them. In your faith, what "preparation" can you do today to be more intentional about seeking Jesus' presence?

P - Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of your presence. Help me to run this race not for a prize I can earn, but for the joy of being with You. Amen. šŸ™

The Question of Access
šŸ“– Scripture: Psalm 24:3 - "Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? or who shall stand in his holy place?"
🧐 Observation: This verse asks the most profound question of humanity: how can a sinful person stand in the presence of a holy God? This isn't a trick question; it's meant to reveal our desperate need. We can't do it on our own.
šŸ’” Application: Don't try to "earn" your way into God's presence. Recognize your inability to achieve a perfect standard and humble yourself before Him. This humble posture is the first step toward true intimacy.
šŸ™ Prayer: "Holy God, I confess that I cannot stand in Your presence on my own merit. My hands are not clean, and my heart is not pure. Thank You for revealing my need for a Savior. Amen."

The Remodel for the Heart
šŸ“– Scripture: Psalm 24:1-2 - "The earth is the Lord's, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods."
🧐 Observation: Just as we might remodel a building to remove distractions and create a dedicated space for God's presence, God desires a remodel in our hearts. He is the owner of everything, including our lives. The ultimate goal of any "remodel" is to make space for the King.
šŸ’” Application: Take a moment today to identify one "distraction" in your life—a habit, a thought pattern, or a worry—that is taking up space in your heart. Acknowledge that your life belongs to the Lord and ask Him to help you remove it.
šŸ™ Prayer: "Lord, You are the owner of all things, including my life. Forgive me for allowing distractions to clutter my heart. I surrender this day and this space to You. Help me to make room for Your presence. Amen."

The Greek word for "saved" and "healed" is the same, meaning salvation encompasses wholeness—spirit, body, community, and creation. Jesus heals us not just for eternity, but also in our present souls and relationships, often through the simple act of sharing life and meals. The table isn't just for eating; it's a place where God's healing balm is applied.

The Mission of God

All of our lives are spent on something. Most people spend their days focused on growing a family, building their career, or amassing possessions.

While none of those things are necessarily wrong, they can become distractions from our ultimate goal in life.

In the book of Acts, we see Paul’s transformation in Christ. As a result of meeting Jesus and being changed by His grace, Paul spends the rest of his life preaching the good news of Jesus.

For Paul, God’s grace and salvation are so great that nothing on this earth is as important as God’s work.

Paul says that nothing in His life matters as much as telling others about God’s grace. His goal in life was to finish his own race well by faithfully accomplishing as much of the mission of God as possible:

"However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God's grace."
Acts 20:24 NIV

The mission of God is not opposed to growing families or building careers. In fact, God desires for us to use those opportunities to faithfully accomplish the mission of God. We can raise families in the way of God, and we can tell our coworkers about God’s grace. Any place we find ourselves can be an opportunity to accomplish the mission of God.

Take a moment to consider your own life and where you spend your time. Are you using every opportunity you have to spread the good news of Jesus? Does your life, like Paul’s, point toward God?

Consider a few ways that you can begin to change your perspective and live your life on mission for God.

God, I want my life to testify to Your goodness and grace. Refocus my heart on You. Help me pursue You first, above all else. Nothing in life matters more than bringing glory to You. Show me who I need to share You with and give me boldness. In Jesus' name, Amen.

The sermon emphasizes that joy is a spiritual discipline, not just a fleeting emotion. It requires intentional practice. Our culture often mistakes happiness for joy, but true joy is a deeper, more abiding condition of the heart, rooted in God. It's about setting our emotional equilibrium for spiritual health, and it begins with surrendering the illusion of control.

Mission and Sacrifice at the Table

Scripture:
Sermon Reference: "One of the greatest gifts we offer a broken world is our dining room table.ā€

Reflection:
The early Christians’ response to the Roman plagues illustrates the missionary power of the dining room table. While others fled, Christians opened their homes, fed the sick, and loved them, even at great personal cost. Their hope beyond this world fueled their sacrificial love. The table became a place not just for bread, but for belonging and evangelism, a testament to a hope that transformed lives.

Application:
How can your table become a place of mission and sacrifice? Consider opening your home to someone who is hurting, lonely, or seeking a sense of belonging.

Prayer:
Lord, inspire me to use my table as a place of mission. Give me the courage to open my home and my heart to those in need, offering not just food, but the hope and belonging found in You. Amen.

A Visceral Story Relived

Scripture:
1 Corinthians 11:23-26 (NIV) - ā€œā€˜Do this in remembrance of Me.’ Not a ritual—a relived story."

Reflection:
"Do this in remembrance of Me" isn't a call to a dry ritual, but to a visceral re-membering—a putting back together of who Jesus is and what He has done. The bread and wine become tangible reminders of His love, sacrifice, and healing. It’s a sensory experience that grounds us in the truth that we are loved, saved, healed, and part of a new family.

Application:
When you next experience communion or simply eat a meal, take a moment to intentionally remember Jesus' sacrifice and presence. How does it feel to be loved, saved, and healed?

Prayer:
Thank You, Jesus, for the gift of remembrance at the table. Help me to not just intellectually recall, but to viscerally experience Your love, Your sacrifice, and the profound truth that I am Yours. Amen.

A Table of True Fellowship

Scripture:
1 Corinthians 11:20-22 (Sermon Reference: "The Jesus meal was radically inclusive.")

Reflection:
The Corinthian church's issue wasn't just poor manners; it was a betrayal of the Gospel's heart: equality and fellowship. The rich feasted while the poor went hungry, a stark contrast to Jesus’s radically inclusive meals. True fellowship, as modeled by Jesus, means shared time, space, resources, and vulnerability. It's about breaking down barriers, not building them.

Application:
Who might feel excluded or overlooked in your sphere of influence? How can you create a more inclusive environment, particularly around shared meals or gatherings?

Prayer:
Jesus, You modeled radical inclusivity at Your table. Forgive me for any ways I contribute to division. Help me to open my heart and my table to all, reflecting Your boundless love and equality. Amen.
