Someday, when you look back on your life, you will realize that the most fruitful seasons you’ve been through are those days when you choose to stay with God and keep your faith. It’s in those challenging moments when you experienced drastic and positive changes. You will continually evolve into a better person as long as you keep your faith in Him even if you don’t understand everything.

Misused Justification

When God’s grace is misused to justify willful sin, you are no longer under His grace but under Satan’s deception.

Some Christians seem to believe they can say and do anything they feel, even if the Bible denotes such behaviors as sinful. They say things like, "All have sinned" (Romans 3:23) and "Judge not, that you be not judged." (Matthew 7:1). These, like all of God's words, are true and irrefutable (Proverbs 30:5, 2 Timothy 3:16-17). However, they are not biblically comprehensive and are often used out of context to justify willful, unrepentant sin. Yes, we are all sinners, but we are not all willful, unrepentant sinners. Yes, we mustn't "judge", that is to say, "condemn" others. Still, we are to love one another (John 13:34), encourage one another (Hebrews 10:24), and when it is apt, with a spirit of truth and love (Ephesians 4:15) and gentleness, rebuke one another (Galatians 6:1).

Those who pretend to "love" God, those who say, "Lord, Lord... (Matthew 7:21), those who blatantly, intentionally sin, thereby making a mockery of God and Jesus Christ, unless they reach a place of sincere confession and repentance, are "lost, condemned" (Mark 16:16, John 14:24). Jesus' sacrifice does not cover intentional, unrepentant sin (Hebrews 10:26, Galatians 6:7). Those who genuinely seek and love God confess Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and believe in his atoning sacrifice and resurrection. Though they will inevitably fail, fall, and sin repetitively, they are "found, saved" (1 Corinthians 10:13, John 14:23).

People sometimes ask, "Why should I try if God already knows what I will do?" He knows because He IS there. God is outside our understanding of space and time, in our past, present, and future. He is everywhere, always. He reads our thoughts, hears our words, and sees our deeds. He knows our heart; He knows our intentions (1 Samuel 6:7). God gave us His word, our "Instruction Manual", for life. He gave us the free will and ability to honor it as best as is humanly possible, and with our will and ability being so feeble, He gave us the Holy Spirit (Matthew 26:41, Romans 8:26).

A Prayer to Honor What Our Nation’s Flag Represents

“All you who inhabit the world, and live on earth, As soon as a flag is raised on the mountains, you will see it, And as soon as the trumpet is blown, you will hear it” - Isaiah 18:3, NASB

Every June 14th, our nation commemorates Flag Day, the day the Continental Congress adopted the original American flag in 1777, made official in 1916 by President Woodrow Wilson. It’s also the birthday of our 45th and 47th President, Donald J. Trump.

Prayers and Presidents author, historian, and speaker, William J. Federer, notes that President Wilson requested that, throughout the nation, the fourteenth day of June be observed as Flag Day with special patriotic exercises, “to give significant expressions to our thoughtful love of America, our comprehension of the great mission of liberty and justice.”

Our United States Flag is, hands down, the most recognizable flag on the planet, as a symbol of freedom to Americans and to people worldwide. Over the decades, millions of citizens have pledged allegiance to our flag, many first thing in the morning as children in classrooms across our country.

Memorized and cited by countless Americans over the years, Dr. Jerry Newcombe, Executive Director of Providence Forum, explains how “The Pledge of Allegiance was written by a Baptist minister in the 1890s, with the “under God” phrase added in the 1950s.”

America’s Flag Stirs Hearts

The American flag is known to stir the hearts of its patriotic citizens. It’s a piece of American history that has seen our nation through many conflicts, standing for life, liberty, justice, and freedom for all.

“Of course, it’s just a symbol,” notes Newcombe, “but it’s a powerful one. To me, it represents the American story---self-rule under God.” Newcombe believes we should honor our flag because it honors God and our country. “A lot of blood was shed defending that flag,” he explains, “and it represents the freedom we enjoy.”

America’s flag has 13 red and white stripes, each representing the original 13 colonies that began our nation, along with 50 white stars set on a blue background representing our current 50 states. Founder of Providence Forum, Dr. Peter Lillback, notes the significance of each color displayed on the American flag, with red standing for hardiness and valor; white for purity and innocence, and blue for perseverance, justice, and vigilance. Although most Americans believe Betsy Ross designed and sewed the first American flag, historians accredit the design to one of the original signers of the Declaration of Independence, Francis Hopkinson.

Flags Significance

The United States is not unique in having a national flag as every country in the world seems to have a national flag, but why? Why is having a flag so important to a nation? The Bible’s Old Testament mentions flags throughout the text, such as found in Isaiah 30:17, “A thousand will flee at the threat of one; at the threat of five you will all flee away, till you are left like a flagstaff on a mountaintop, like a banner on a hill.”

Initially, flags were used primarily in warfare, announcing battles, identifying troops, friend or foe. Today they still carry to some extent a symbol of power and leadership, leading military processions and announcing dignitaries. Flags are also used to rally people together for a cause, as well as for signaling, decorating, and displaying. As well, flags are used to communicate the passing away of a nation’s leaders, or to mourn a national tragedy or disaster. They are also used to declare ownership and jurisdiction in homelands and foreign lands, too.

Dear Father,

We thank You for what our American Flag stands for: one nation under God, a country founded and established on godly principles. We praise You for the freedom it represents to us that comes from You through Jesus Christ. Strengthen our nation and our citizens to hold true to what our flag symbolizes, as written in the Declaration of Independence preamble that: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” Help us, O Lord, to honor what our American Flag represents to our nation and to nations around the world.

Speak The Truth

Truth will always offend people opposed to it.

Studies have shown that no matter what you think, say, and do, at least 20% of people will disagree with you. Do you speak the truth - those inclined to lie will disagree with you. Are you generous with your time and resources - those inclined to greed will disagree with you. I could give dozens of examples, but hopefully, you get the idea. Disagreement isn't necessarily bad; in fact, it can be good. People can and sometimes should disagree, but being nasty is never justified.

God warns us to expect people to say and even do unkind things to us. It's alright to be angry (Ephesians 4:26-27) and defend ourselves if need be. But we must not sin; we must not seek revenge, in word or deed (Romans 12:19). In Matthew 5:44, Jesus said, "Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.”

It's good to have people in your life who love you for you, people who see, encourage, and support the best in you. If someone wants to be slanderous, let them. If someone wants to believe their lies, let them. If someone wants to create and or get involved in drama, let them. Your life is a precious gift; your time is too valuable to be bothered with such silliness.

You cannot control what people think, speak, or do, but you can control how you respond. God reads our thoughts, hears our words, and sees our deeds, and remember, we will each one day stand before and give an account to Him (Romans 14:12). So don't let what someone else thinks, says, or does be your excuse for responding in a like manner.

Be reminded:

You are chosen (Jeremiah 1:5). You are loved (John 3:16). Nothing anyone else thinks, says, or does will ever change that (Deuteronomy 31:6). God loves you, along with a lot of family and friends. Keeping you in our thoughts and prayers, always. God bless.

God’s Presence In His Creation

Colossians 1:16 (LSB) 16 For in Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him.

God is in everything we see.

Pouring rain. Bright sunshine.

Dark Clouds. Rainbows.

Gusty Winds. Waves crashing on the shore.

Beautiful sunsets. The dawning of a new day.

The sounds of birds singing.

Dolphins swimming playfully in the waves along the ocean shore.

Whales spouting.

And, yes, He is even in the thunder and lightning.

He created it all and still reigns over it all.

We often lose sight of how easy it is to see God. We can get caught up in “the mysteries of God” and miss what is right in front of us.

We seek specific miracles, sometimes for our own purposes, or maybe on behalf of someone else.

This is not inherently wrong in and of itself. But are we so caught up in it that we miss Him in everything else?

We must not let the cares of life steal our joy and the wonder of who God is.

He is here, visible in the things around us.

Let us be careful not to forget!

Lord, teach me to trust Your timing above my own. When the waiting feels heavy, remind me that You are still working with wisdom, purpose, and love. Fill my heart with patience, peace, and steady faith in seasons I do not understand. Help me surrender control and believe that Your plans will unfold at the right time, in the right way. Amen.
