Luke 10:40-42

Adversity can help "choose the better part."

If our hears are right before God, adversity will school us, help us overcome our carnal nature, and nurture the divine spark within us. Were it not for adversity, we would not know to "choose the better part." Adversity helps us see where we need to repent, to bring into subjection baser instincts, to embrace righteousness and enjoy "peace of conscience."

Remember, seek the Lord, find favor within His arms, for with God nothing shall be impossible.

Jesus' association with Mary and Martha show us many lessons that we can apply to our lives, here are a few:

That men and women can learn a deep and abiding testimony of the doctrine of Jesus Christ,

No one is exempt from sitting themselves at the feet of Jesus and learning from Him,

No one should feel excluded from receiving and sharing God's word,

All women and men can be scholars of Jesus Christ, just like Mary,

Never judge what another's role should be by the role you choose to play,

We all have times we misread a situation, these moments do not define who we are,

Jesus loves all those that He chastens, as should we.

When our focus is on Jesus Christ, we can choose the better part by making this our needful thing.

Remember, seek the Lord, find favor within His arms, for with God nothing shall be impossible.

Luke 10:21-24

Within these verses, when linked to the prior verses about the return of the Seventy, stand two central ingredients of Luke's report.

First, the Saviors' kingdom is one of joy, the Seventy return "with joy" and Jesus reminds them that they should "rejoice" that their "names are written in heaven." In light of their success and their joy, Jesus Himself "rejoiced".

Second, all is accomplished "in the Holy Spirit," recalling and verifying both the vivifying influence of the Holy Ghost that descends on Jesus at His baptism and the empowering "Spirit of the Lord" that, as Jesus announces in the Nazareth synagogue, has "anointed (him) to preach teh gospel to the poor".

We, through the restored power of the gospel of Jesus Christ have the authority to carry the message of joy and the power of the Spirit into the lives of others.

Remember, seek the Lord, find favor within His arms, for with God nothing shall be impossible.

Matthew 18:21-22

¶ Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?
Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.

We can be a peacemaker by practicing and teaching forgiveness. Jesus was asked how many times one should be forgiven, and he replied that we should forgive without limit. Forgive him "seventy times seven". An important part of forgiving is forgetting. In some ways, being able to forget is almost as valuable as being able to remember.

Remember, seek the Lord, find favor within His arms, for with God nothing shall be impossible.

Matthew 18:6-9

Jesus notes that there are consequences for offending little children: “If anyone causes one of these little ones who trusts in me to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea”.

Some millstones are large, heavy stones used to grind wheat. In Palestine, millstones are usually about two or three feet high; some in other places in the Roman Empire are even larger. Jesus speaks here of “a mill turned by donkeys,” or in other words, a large millstone. All such millstones have a hole in the middle of them so that the ground grain can drop down and out of the bottom. Through that hole a rope could hypothetically be passed, and such a thing would then make extremely heavy jewelry. Someone wearing it around their neck would never come back up after being thrown down into the sea. This would have been a very graphic image to ordinary people in Galilee in Jesus’ day.

Remember, seek the Lord, find favor within His arms, for with God nothing shall be impossible.

“I give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven” (Matt. 16.19) This statement can be seen as being symbolic of the church's foundation: Some see the "keys of the kingdom" as symbolic of the role Peter played in establishing the church. Jesus' statement in Matthew 16.18, "You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church," is interpreted to mean that Peter was the foundation upon which the church was built, and that the "keys of the kingdom" represent his leadership in this role. "These keys, as we are aware, are the right and power to preside over the kingdom which is the Church. They enable the legal administrators who hold them to perform the ordinances of salvation so they will be binding on earth and sealed in heaven. Unless, for instance, a baptism performed on earth has efficacy and force in heaven, it will not admit the penitent person into the eternal heaven, which his soul desires. These sealing keys were, in fact, given to Peter, James, and John about a week later, when they climbed nearby Mount Hermon to meet with Moses and Elijah and to participate in the glory of the Transfiguration. Later they were given to all of theTwelve, so that all had the power to bind and loose both on earth and in heaven. (Matt. 18:18.)"

The Resurrection of Jesus Christ 3 of 3

The Resurrection of Jesus Christ
2 of 3

About Christ’s Resurrection, President Dallin H. Oaks taught:

The Resurrection gives us the perspective and the strength to endure the mortal challenges faced by each of us and those we love. It gives us a new way to view the physical, mental, or emotional deficiencies we have at birth or acquire during mortal life. It gives us the strength to endure sorrows, failures, and frustrations. Because each of us has an assured resurrection, we know that these mortal deficiencies and oppositions are only temporary.

Because I live, ye shall live also.
The Resurrection of Jesus Christ 1 of 3
John 20:1-18
Matthew 28:1-10

Early in the morning, Mary Magdalene, a friend and follower of Jesus Christ, came to the tomb to care for His body. To her astonishment, she found the tomb empty. Later as she wept outside the tomb, a man addressed her—the gardener, she supposed. But then He said her name, “Mary.” And she saw. It was Jesus Christ alive again. The knowledge was too wonderful to contain. Her faith propelled her into a joyous sprint as she ran to tell the others.
It’s a testimony that still propels people today. You can know, just as Mary Magdalene did, that Jesus Christ lives. Because of Him, everyone will live again. If we follow Christ, we can find true happiness on earth and look forward to eternal joy in the life to come.

Remember, seek the Lord, find favor within His arms, for with God nothing shall be impossible.

Ministry in the Spirit World

Matthew 27:55–61
John 14:15–16, 26–27
Doctrine and Covenants 138

So they went, and made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, and setting a watch” (Matthew 27:66).

It’s hard to imagine the anguish Jesus Christ’s followers must have felt on the day after His death. The night before, His body had been lovingly prepared and placed in a garden tomb. Now they were left to figure out how life could possibly go on without Him. Almost certainly His death had taken something from them, but what they had lost was nothing compared to all that His life had given. Whether they understood it or not, Jesus Christ had forged a new path forward for all who would follow Him, one lit by a hope that shines brighter than any darkness we may encounter.

President M. Russell Ballard invited us to study the remarkable vision of President Joseph F. Smith about the Savior’s ministry in the spirit world that took place after the Savior’s Crucifixion: "I invite you to thoroughly and thoughtfully read this revelation. As you do so, may the Lord bless you to more fully understand and appreciate God’s love and His plan of salvation and happiness for His children. I testify that the vision President Joseph F. Smith received is true. I bear witness that every person can read it and come to know it is true."

When has Jesus helped you find hope, comfort, or peace during difficult times?

Remember, seek the Lord, find favor within His arms, for with God nothing shall be impossible.
