Road to Redemption, Part 1, Bishop, Dr. Okey Nichols, August 30, 2026
In this message series we will look at 12 truths of the road to redemption. Our journey of faith is a road to redemption. We are all on the road to road to redemption. Redemption means the act of saving, to set free, or to bring back something or someone from a state of debt or captivity. We are held captive by so many things in our world. We are captive to the telephone, to our financial debt, to entertainment and a multitude of addictive passtimes and substances. We were all held captive to sin. We need redemption from our sin. We can compare redemption to the way a pawnshop works. A pawnshop takes your item of value in captivity and holds it until you make restitution. When you do that you can redeem your item. You don't have to accept their offer for redemption, you can leave your object there. Redemption is God's offer to give us eternal life. We can accept it by making restitution according to God's plan through Jesus, or we can simply lose the offer forever. Our time to accept it will come to a close. We make restitution by offering our life as a living sacrifice to God. That means we don't do what we want to, we follow the Holy Spirit's guidance in our lives. We are livng sacrifices when we serve the church when it's inconvenient, when we give though we have other things to do with our money, when we keep our word to our own hurt, when we attend church when we'd rather not, when we refuse to gossip, when we take a stand for Christ in our world. Romans 12:1 tells us we are to offer our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God. This is our true and proper worship. God wants to redeem us. Jesus paid the pawn ticket when he died as the ransom for our sin. Redemption is there waiting for us, but we must accept it. We are not redeemed until we turn to God, until He becomes your source, until He becomes your life, until you become a living sacrifice and follow the teaching of Jesus to do what He told you to do. We have to do everything God says, not just part of it. God is looking for people who are all in. Faith, trust and obedience are all part of our redemption. Psalm 137 tells us to put our hope in the Lord for with him is unfailing love and with him is full redemption. Accept His offer today.
