Ignite weekend recap
This weekend 10 students and 2 chaperones attended Camp Michawana in Hastings. On our first night at camp, students were tasked with creating a team flag for their assigned “country.” We chose Ignĩre—Latin for ignite. Using spray paint and wax markers, students designed a bold flag to represent our team. By morning, a chant had been created as well. Led by our resident spirit leader, Ella, the team confidently presented both the flag and chant. Ignĩre was victorious, taking first place overall for creativity and presentation.
Saturday was packed with competition during the “Get Strong Games,” a series of team-based challenges including Alaskan Gold Rush, broom ball, a gingerbread house contest, and the biggest test of all—the Great Decathlon. One of the standout moments was the cold plunge in the lake. Teams earned points for every student willing to brave the icy water, and six Ignite students stepped up. Damian led by example, being the first into the water and the last out—partly to encourage students, and partly because after more than 80 minutes of broom ball, the cold water felt like much-needed relief.
Sunday was a time of reflection, beginning with breakfast, God & I quiet time, and workshops. We headed back early to Lakewood, where students shared their camp experience with the congregation and confidently recited Ephesians 6:10:
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might.”
We wrapped up the day with pizza and soda alongside the pastor and church staff.
As if the weekend wasn’t full enough…
Sunday night at Ignite Student Ministry, we welcomed seven students, including one brand-new face—and our hearts were full. 💛 We are incredibly thankful for students who invite friends and help grow this community.
Dinner consisted of tacos and leftover pizza (because youth group math always includes pizza 😄). Afterward, we opened our Bibles and returned to the basics—God’s Word, truth, and what it means to build a solid foundation of faith.
The highlight of the night was a hands-on challenge where students worked together to put all 66 books of the Bible in order. There was plenty of teamwork, laughter, and learning along the way. 📖
Nights like this remind us that it’s not about big numbers—it’s about faithful seeds, open hearts, and showing up.
God is moving, one student at a time.
