Holy Trinity Sunday

The doctrine of the Trinity is often approached as something to be explained. Scripture approaches it as something to be experienced.

This week’s readings reveal a God who is far greater than human understanding, yet closer than we often realize.

Psalm 113 lifts our eyes to the Father, whose glory is above the nations and the heavens. Yet His greatness is revealed not in distance, but in His willingness to notice the overlooked, lift the burdened, and draw near to those the world often forgets.

In Luke’s Gospel, Mary responds to that nearness with praise. She stands between promise and fulfillment, trusting a God who is already at work even when she cannot yet see the outcome. Her song reminds us that faith is often formed in the space between what God has promised and what He has yet to reveal.

Then Pentecost arrives…

In Acts 2, the Spirit is poured out upon ordinary people. No longer experienced only through sacred places or extraordinary individuals, the presence of God comes to dwell within human lives. What Jesus prayed for in John 17 begins to unfold: a living relationship with God that is personal, ongoing, and transformative.

Taken together, these passages reveal something remarkable.

The Father creates and sustains.
The Son reveals and reconciles.
The Spirit indwells and transforms.

Yet God is not divided.

One God. One love. One purpose.

Always moving toward humanity, inviting us not merely to believe in Him, but to know Him.

And perhaps that is the deepest mystery of the Trinity. The God who is beyond all understanding continually invites us into relationship.

💬 Which person of the Trinity do you feel most drawn to right now: the Father, the Son, or the Holy Spirit?

Psalm 113

“Who is like the Lord our God, the One who sits enthroned on high, who stoops down to look on the heavens and the earth?”

Psalm 113 begins with praise, but at its heart is a remarkable truth about God.

The psalmist describes a God whose glory is higher than the nations and whose majesty is beyond the heavens. Yet the wonder of God is not found only in His greatness.

It is found in the fact that He notices. The God who created the stars sees the overlooked, the struggling, the forgotten, and the brokenhearted.

“He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap.”

In a world that often measures people by status, success, wealth, influence, or accomplishment, Psalm 113 reveals a very different picture of God. His attention is drawn toward those the world tends to overlook.

That truth becomes even more meaningful when viewed through the lens of the Trinity.

The Father who reigns over creation is the same Father who sees the overlooked. The Son who reigns in glory is the same Son who walked among ordinary people. The Spirit who fills the heavens is the same Spirit who dwells within believers.

The greatness of God is not found merely in how far above us He is, but in the fact that He chooses to come near.

The One who holds the universe together also sees the individual heart. The One who reigns over all creation is not indifferent to human need. He lifts, restores, and draws near.

💬 When have you been reminded that God was closer than you realized?

INDESCRIBABLE

From the highest of heights
to the depths of the sea
Creation's revealing Your majesty
From the colors of Fall
to the fragrance of Spring
Ev'ry creature unique
in the song that it sings
All exclaiming

CHORUS
Indescribable uncontainable
You placed the stars in the sky
And You know them by name
You are amazing God
All powerful untamable
Awestruck we fall to our knees
As we humbly proclaim
You are amazing God

Who has told ev'ry lightning bolt
where it should go
Or seen heavenly storehouses
laden with snow
Who imagined the sun
and gives source to its light
Yet conceals it to bring us
the coolness of night
None can fathom

CHORUS

You are amazing God

CHORUS
Indescribable uncontainable
You placed the stars in the sky
And You know them by name
You are amazing God
All powerful untamable
Awestruck we fall to our knees
As we humbly proclaim
You are amazing God

REPEAT CHORUS

Ending
Indescribable uncontainable
You placed the stars in the sky
And You know them by name
You are amazing God

Incomparable, unchangeable
You see the depths of my heart
And You love me the same
You are amazing God

You are amazing God
You are amazing God

IN CHRIST ALONE

In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
This Cornerstone
This solid Ground
Firm through the fiercest
drought and storm
What heights of love,
What depths of peace,
When fears are stilled,
When strivings cease;
My Comforter
My All in All
Here in the love of Christ I stand

In Christ alone who took on flesh
Fullness of God in helpless babe
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones He came to save
Till on that cross as Jesus died
The wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin on Him was laid
Here in the death of Christ I live

There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain
Then bursting forth in glorious Day
Up from the grave He rose again
And as He stands in victory
Sin's curse has lost its grip on me
For I am His and He is mine
Bought with the precious blood of Christ

No guilt in life no fear in death
This is the power of Christ in me
From life's first cry to final breath
Jesus commands my destiny

No power of hell no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand
Till He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I'll stand
(repeat last phrase)

HOW GREAT IS OUR GOD

The splendor of the King
Clothed in majesty
Let all the earth rejoice
All the earth rejoice

He wraps Himself in light
And darkness tries to hide
And trembles at His voice
And trembles at His voice

Chorus
How great is our God
Sing with me
How great is our God
And all will see how great
How great is our God

And age to age He stands
And time is in His hands
Beginning and the End
Beginning and the End

The Godhead three in one
Father Spirit Son
The Lion and the Lamb
The Lion and the Lamb

Chorus
How great is our God
Sing with me
How great is our God
And all will see how great
How great is our God

Name above all names
Worthy of all praise
My heart will sing
How great is our God

How great is our God
Sing with me
How great is our God
And all will see how great
How great is our God

Acts 2:1–21

Pentecost is often remembered for the rushing wind, the fire, and the miracle of different languages. But the deeper meaning of the passage is found in what changed between God and humanity.

The disciples are gathered together after the ascension of Jesus, waiting in uncertainty and still trying to understand what comes next. Then the Holy Spirit comes upon them as the living presence of God dwelling within human lives.

That is the turning point… For much of the Old Testament, the presence of God was experienced as external, through prophets, sacred places, fire, cloud, and temple. But at Pentecost, the Spirit comes to dwell within ordinary people.

“I will pour out my Spirit on all people…”

That connects directly to what Jesus says in John 17:

“That they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”

Jesus describes eternal life not first as something future, but as something present. To know God personally and live in ongoing relationship with Him now.

Pentecost reminds us that faith is not simply believing certain things about God. It is living in relationship with Him, becoming inwardly shaped by His presence, and learning to move through life with a deeper awareness that we are not separate from God, but invited into continual connection with Him.

💬 What helps you feel most connected to God in everyday life?

Psalm 104:24–35

“How many are your works, Lord! In wisdom you made them all…”

Psalm 104 sees creation as alive with the wisdom and sustaining presence of God. The movement of the seas, the rhythm of the seasons, the rising and resting of creatures, even breath itself, are described as existing in continual dependence upon Him.

“You hide your face, they are terrified… when you send your Spirit, they are created…”

The psalm does not present life as self-sustaining. It presents all creation as held together moment by moment by God.

Most people live carrying the quiet weight of trying to hold everything together themselves. Responsibilities. Uncertainty. Worry about the future. The exhausting illusion that everything depends entirely on our own strength and control.

But Psalm 104 pulls the human heart back into proportion. It reminds us that long before we arrived, God was sustaining the world with wisdom beyond our understanding, and long after our own striving quiets, His creation will still testify to His glory.

“The glory of the Lord endure forever…”

Not fragile.
Not temporary.
Not shaken by the instability of human life.

That is part of the peace this psalm offers. The realization that beneath all the movement, noise, uncertainty, and pressure of life, there remains a Creator steadily sustaining what He has made.

💬 Where do you most notice the wisdom and presence of God in the world around you?

PENTECOST

PRAISE
“Let everything / / That has breath / /
Praise the Lord / / /Praise the Lord! / / ”

Verse 1
I’ll praise in the valley
Praise on the mountain
I’ll praise when I’m sure
Praise when I’m doubting

I’ll praise when outnumbered
Praise when surrounded
'Cause praise is the water
The enemy drowns in

As long as I’m breathing
I’ve got a reason to

Praise the Lord oh my soul
Praise the Lord oh my soul

Verse 2
I’ll praise when I feel it
And I’ll praise when I don’t
I’ll praise 'cause I know
You’re still in control

'Cause my praise is a weapon
It’s more than a sound
My praise is the shout
That brings Jericho down

As long as I’m breathing
I’ve got a reason to

Praise the Lord oh my soul
Praise the Lord oh my soul

I won’t be quiet
My God is alive
How could I keep it inside
Praise the Lord oh my soul

BRIDGE
I’ll praise 'cause You’re sovereign
Praise 'cause You reign
Praise 'cause You rose and defeated the grave

I’ll praise 'cause You’re faithful
Praise 'cause You’re true
Praise 'cause there’s nobody greater than You
(REPEAT BRIDGE)

Chorus 3
Praise the Lord oh my soul
Praise the Lord oh my soul

Praise the Lord oh my soul
Praise the Lord oh my soul

I won’t be quiet
My God is alive

My God is alive
How could I keep it inside

HERE IN THIS PLACE/GATHER US IN

Here in this place new light is streaming
Now is the darkness vanished away
See in this space
our fears and our dreamings
Brought here to you
in the light of this day

Gather us in, the lost and forsaken
Gather us in, the blind and the lame
Call to us now and we shall awaken
We shall arise at the sound of our name

Verse 2
We are the young,
our lives are a mystery
We are the old who yearn for your face
We have been sung
throughout all of history
Called to be light
to the whole human race

Gather us in, the rich and the haughty
Gather us in, the proud and the strong
Give us a heart so meek and so lowly
Give us the courage to enter the song

Verse 3
Here we will take the wine and the water
Here we will take the bread of new birth
Here you shall call your sons
and your daughters
Call us anew to be salt for the earth
Give us to drink the wine of compassion
Give us to eat the bread that is you
Nourish us well and teach us to fashion
Lives that are holy
and hearts that are true

Verse 4
Not in the dark of buildings confining
Not in some heaven light years away
But here in this place
the new light is shining
Now is the kingdom, now is the day

Gather us in and hold us forever
Gather us in and make us your own
Gather us in, all peoples together
Fire of love in our flesh and our bones

OCEANS (WHERE FEET MAY FAIL)

You call me out upon the waters
The great unknown where feet may fail
And there I find You in the mystery
In oceans deep my faith will stand

And I will call upon Your name
And keep my eyes above the waves
When oceans rise
My soul will rest in Your embrace
For I am Yours and You are mine

Your grace abounds in deepest waters
Your sov'reign hand will be my guide
Where feet may fail and fear surrounds me
You've never failed and You won't start now

And I will call upon Your name
And keep my eyes above the waves
When oceans rise
My soul will rest in Your embrace
For I am Yours and You are mine

Oh

And You are mine

Oh

(BRIDGE)
Spirit lead me
where my trust is without borders
Let me walk upon the waters
Wherever You would call me

Take me deeper
than my feet could ever wander
And my faith will be made stronger
In the presence of my Saviour
(REPEAT 4x’s)

OH!

I will call upon Your name
Keep my eyes above the waves
My soul will rest in Your embrace
I am Yours and You are mine
