The Foundation for Evangelism

The Foundation for Evangelism The Foundation for Evangelism is a CATALYST to equip disciples to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.

The Foundation for Evangelism is a Wesleyan-tradition grant-making organization located at Lake Junaluska, North Carolina. Chartered in 1949 by Dr. Harry Denman, then the General Secretary of the Board of Evangelism of the Methodist Church, and a group a visionary laymen, it was designed to “diffuse the blessing of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.”

Today, we carry out that vision by providing

grants that can be a catalyst to equip disciples to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. We focus our grant-making in three specific areas: Raising Up Gospel Leaders, Engaging the Ministry of the Laity, and Equipping the Local Church. Periodically, the Foundation for Evangelism conducts grant cycles for specific focus areas. These cycles are announced on social media and via website and print media.

Who has helped you hear God's call in your life? Who helped you receive the gift of the Holy Spirit? Today, as we remember the celebration and wonder of Pentecost, we also honor friends, family, and fellow citizens who sacrificed everything so that we can live and worship in freedom.

Honor that person or persons with a gift of your own. Gifts to the Foundation help even more people hear receive the gift of the Holy Spirit through training and grants that educate, empower, and equip disciples to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Give an honor or memory gift at https://TheFFE.org/GiveInHonor.

Barby Bowser (Communications) recently sat in on a check-in call with our 2025 Thriving Congregations Cohorts grant recipients. Among the comments made, this one seemed to sum it up: “You threw us a lifeline – we really needed it!” These cohorts and grants have helped churches think beyond where to are, to where God is calling them to be!

Barby Bowser, Communications director, recently sat in on one of the check-ins with 2025 Local Church Cohort grant recipients. “You threw us a lifeline – we really needed it!” This was just one comment during a recent check-in with seven churches who had been part of the Thriving Congregations...

Dr. Quavon Z. Newton delivered the Wallace Chappell Lecture March 24 at Hood Theological Seminary. His message: evangelism is essential to the Church's identity! He explored whether evangelism still matters and how the church can be faithful in its witness. The panel discussion following Dr. Newton's lecture built on and expanded the experience with notable participants from the ecumenical community. https://buff.ly/OJm4xLp

Do you hate losing things? For the Revd. Dr. Quavon Z. Newton, it’s a perennial issue, one that disrupts the routine. He confessed this to the students, faculty and guests at the 2026 Wallace Chappell Lecture, and a glance around The Aymer Auditorium at Hood Theological Seminary confirmed that the...

Yesterday, the Foundation staff had a day-apart for planning and spiritual rejuvenation. Our location was a historic place in Western North Carolina, Balsam Mountain Inn. We began the day by exploring the grounds, looking for items or vistas that reminded us of the Foundation. We prayed together, for the Foundation's work, our board, and one another. There was fruitful work and team-building accomplished! Thanks to Balsam Mountain Inn for a beautiful setting for our time together, and for their friendly staff (furry greeter included) who welcomed us.

We celebrate with the graduates of the Hispanic-Latino/a Pastoral Initiative (HPLI) at Duke Divinity School! HPLI, part of the Hispanic House of Studies, is led by Dr. Alma Tinoco Ruiz, whose position is supported in part by The Foundation for Evangelism. Dr. Ruiz is also a Denman Fellow and amazing professor and mentor!

For Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking pastors and lay leaders in locations around the world who do not have access to local theological training or who wish to expand their theological knowledge, a unique program at Duke Divinity School helps fill an important need: theological and pastoral training....

The Foundation for Evangelism's board of trustees met Thursday at The A.M.E. Zion Church's headquarters in Charlotte for their midyear board meeting. Bishop Darryl Starnes, Senior Bishop of the A.M.E. Zion Church and a Foundation trustee, led the board in a devotional, sharing about his own faith journey, and challenging the board to examine their spiritual disciplines in order to be credible witnesses for Christ to share the Good News. We are grateful to Bishop Starnes and the staff at the A.M.E. Zion Church headquarters for hosting the meeting and their warm welcome!
