The World M**hodist Council Youth and Young Adults Committee is launching its first Peacebuilding Online Learning Programme.

International Law as a Foundation for Peace: Faith, Justice, and Global Responsibility

Join us online on Tuesday, 2 June 2026, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm London time (GMT+1) for an interactive session exploring international law, peacebuilding, human dignity, and Christian responsibility in contexts of war, displacement, and global injustice.

The session will include keynote input from Dr Fatou Bensouda, WMC Peace Award Laureate 2025 and former Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, together with reflections from young adults from Palestine and Ukraine.

The programme will be conducted in English. To make the session as accessible as possible, we are exploring the possibility of offering live interpretation in Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, and Korean, depending on volunteer availability.

After a four-day solidarity and pastoral visit to Cuba, an international ecumenical delegation, in a statement, expressed the support and compassionate care, particularly regarding the grave humanitarian and human rights impacts of the unilateral economic embargo imposed on Cuba by the US for more than six and a half decades.

“The most vulnerable people include 5 million people living with chronic illnesses whose treatments are at risk of disruption and 1 million people who rely on tanker trucks for drinking water,” reads the statement. "The delegation sought to convey the solidarity of the global ecumenical fellowship with the churches and people of Cuba suffering these impacts.”

“Discussions focused on the humanitarian situation, the role of churches in accompanying vulnerable communities, and the need for policies that prioritize human dignity,” reads the statement. “Throughout the visit, delegation members witnessed and heard painful testimonies of the suffering of the Cuban people in this situation.”

A pastoral delegation initiated by the World Communion of Reformed Churches worshipped together in Havana, Cuba on Palm Sunday. The group is accompanying the people of Cuba during a time of deepening humanitarian challenge.

The delegation consists of the Rev. Dr. Reynaldo Ferreira Leao Neto, General Secretary of the World M**hodist Council; Rev. Philip Vinod Peacock, General Secretary of the WCRC, the Rev. Prof. Dr. Jerry Pillay, General Secretary of the World Council of Churches; Rev. Jihyun Oh, Stated Clerk of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and Executive Director of Presbyterian Life & Witness; the Rev. Jimmie R. Hawkins, Director of Advocacy in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.); the Rt. Rev. Anthony Poggo, Secretary-General of the Anglican Communion; and the Rev. Dr. Michael Blair, General Secretary of the United Church of Canada.

This visit comes amid growing concern about the impact of economic restrictions on essential services such as health care, food, water, and energy. Together, they are meeting with churches, ecumenical partners, and community leaders; visiting local congregations and health institutions; and witnessing firsthand the realities faced by Cuban communities.
