Immanuel's Sparks

Immanuel's Sparks At Immanuel, we honor the curious and inquisitive nature of children. We hope you will gather with us during your child's faith journey.

Our faith curriculum, Godly Play, invites them to not only hear the story, but wonder what each story means.

We are gearing up for another year of Sparks Sunday School at Immanuel! Classes will begin on Sunday, September 13th.

Sparks takes place during our 10 o'clock service. Bring your kiddos right to the sanctuary. The morning will begin with a children's message. Following that, we will head to the daycare wing for music practice. We will then split into age-based groups for their morning lessons.

Our preschool and pre-kindergarten groups use a program called Hands on Bible. The lessons are very active with plenty of invitations to move throughout the morning. It keeps our busy little ones engaged and learning!

Those from Kindergarten through 5th grade will use a program called Godly Play. This is a Montessori based curriculum that invites our children to wonder! Each lesson comes with a set of materials that truly brings our stories to life. There is something for them to hear, see, touch, and at times even smell to enhance our lessons. This interactive approach not only engages their attention, but it helps the stories stick!

The morning will wrap up once service has ended. We do ask that parents pick their child up in the daycare wing in a timely manner to respect the schedules of our volunteers.

***We are also looking for Sunday school teachers! You would be paired with a teaching partner, which means you would probably teach about twice per month. All lessons are made in advance and all materials are gathered in advance. Please let me know if you would like to join the team!

August often feels like a liminal space. School has not yet started. Summer has not yet ended. Yet both seem to be intruding upon the other. We find ourselves balancing between preparations for a new school year and grasping the final days of summer break. The responses to such a transition reflect the time imbalance. Some of us crave the return to routine and structure. Others grieve the end of a more relaxed schedule. Whatever our response may be, we exist together in this middle ground.

Although it may feel more stark during these last summer weeks, we are always between a what was and a what will be. Our minds linger on what came before. And our minds float forward to what may come. How easy it is to disconnect from the present. Yet God is active in all of our moments. We don’t have to rush into the next season or mourn the last. God worked in our yesterdays. God will work in our tomorrows. And God is working today.

In Christ,

Sarah

We are well into Immanuel’s Vacation Bible Camp. During the week of VBC, we invite children from the community to gather with us as we take steps forward on our faith journeys. It’s a big event that takes many hands, many feet, and many hearts. Whenever we have asked for support along the way, we have received a resounding “yes.”

Some came to lead music. Some came to create crafts. Some came to share the story. All came to nourish faith. This week is not possible without the many hands, feet, and hearts that gather together. It leaves me feeling a mix of gratitude and awe; gratitude for those giving of themselves to make this week happen, and awe at what our amazing God has done and continues to do. Those hands, feet, and hearts are truly doing holy work inspired by the Spirit. Long after the decorations come down and the songs fade, the love shared will remain.

In Christ,

Sarah

As a child I was exposed to many people who taught me the stories of our faith. They told me about Noah, King David, Esther, and Hannah. Each of the stories painted a picture of our God whose defining characteristic is love. As I grew and faced many real challenges, I faced them with hope. I knew that the God of love from those ancient stories was the same God that guided me through my own. I also knew that this message of hope was just too good to keep to myself. That story, the one of our same loving God told through different eyes, needed to be shared.

Just as it was done for me, when we share the good news with our children, we are infusing it into their very being. This requires more than just telling these ancient stories; it means living them out loud so our children can see God's love in action. When we make space for faith in our homes, we build a foundation that cannot be shaken. Through our consistency, we hand down a legacy of hope that will guide them long after we are gone. Afterall, the greatest story we will tell is the one we live out in front of them.

Sarah
